With 55 murders a day, is it a good idea to have the WCup in SA in 2010?

Well I was looking at murder statistics and SA was the forth worst in the world between 1998-2000 and i dont think the top three countries have ever hosted a world cup so we might just be the country to host the world cup with the worst murder stastistics. But I dont think stasticts will prevent the world cup being hosted in SA

I'm waiting for the real world cup to start - when the British soccer hooligans show up to ply their trade, and are met by ruthless savages pointing AK 47s at them.

No it is a very bad idea but it is not there yet. The only reason it was awarded to South Africa was on the back of bribes and corruption but they still have to deliver. In Britain's Sun Newspaper they showed a picture of the new Stadium in Cape Town about 2 weeks ago and it was just a muddy hole in the ground.
You only mention murder but what about all the other violent crimes such as rape,carjacking and assault that are part of everyday life. What about the incompetent Police where statistics show that 60% are functionally illiterate? What about the rampant HIV/AIDS and XDR TB problems that are likely to spark another explosion in this pandemic but in other parts of the World? What about the collapsed infrastructure and Public Services that cannot even cope with the current SA citizens and problems? What about the shortages in Electricity, Gas and Food?
If it goes ahead the best that can be done is to ensure that as few people from Europe/US/S America etc as possible attend and maybe we can avoid another African disaster.

It might not be a good idea, but that is the fact. SA is going to try to host the World Cup to the best of its ability.. It is going to be make or break. I am more interested in whether everything will be ready in time, and will there be a good public transport system ? So letÂ´s give them the benefit of the doubt and support them in their efforts. What the outcome is, will be for the whole world to decide afterwards.

I think that it is a great a idea to give the criminals a better budget to work on
There will be more to steal more white people to kill (and blaming it then on apartheid)
And the international world will see South Africa for what it realy is
They wont be misleaded by the government

Sure, why not? There are many countries that host it that have murder rates higher than that.

For those who wish the ANC and Africa to finally be recognised as the basket case of corruption, greed, violence and despair that they are, it is actually a great idea.
The denialists have no sense of responsibility as regards the safety and welfare of the many unsuspecting tourists who will no doubt return to their native countries as victims of rape, violent assault and armed robbery, those less fortunate will return in body bags to mourning families.
South Africa has become little more than a poor joke and gets worse by the hour.
