Statistically Egypt is one of the safest cities in the world! Having been there I completely agree with statistics. Besides that most Egyptians love Americans and other foreigners (although some of that love is probably more toward the green in your pocket but still...) Egyptians are very friendly. I've been all over Egypt and never felt threatened with the exception of whenever your in a government building and there's a million(ok an exageration) guards around. I don't know about Jodan but that a little closer to hostilities so I might not feel as safe about it but I don't know, I've never been there. Egypt will be perfectly fine though, I doubt you'll even get one negative comment made towards you. |

I am going to be traveling on my own through the Middle East and I am a tall white American male. I will be keeping a low "American" profile and sticking to very specific areas. I will also always have my eyes and ears open.
Most people anywhere are friendly and will not hold our country's policies against us personally. Of course, there will always be other people...
There is risk anywhere: in our homes, driving, walking, sleeping. I think it is worth a little additional risk to visit such fascinating countries.
Life is not worth living without a little risk. Travel and be safe. |

no you should definitely go, i've been to both jordan and egypt and you'll be safe (your not exactly in a warzone in either of those locations) the middle east is amazing and it would honestly be a shame to miss out on it. tip tho -- dont flaunt your american(ness) i mean you dont have to pretend your canadian (although it helps) but just dont be all like "america is the greatest" you know that sort of behavior |

I'll keep an eye on them so they wont think im republican. I heard Republicans get questioned, sodomized and skinned alive in places like this. |

Not sure about these countries but I traveled through Asia while in the Navy. Suggest you read up and find out about the laws etc. For example it's very strict in Sinapore, you don't want to even throw a gumwrapper down on the sidewalk. You have to remember that if you get into trouble you're pretty much on your own. Two of my shipmates got caught with pot in Japan (a serious offense there) but were lucky that the U.S. Navy stepped in and got them released. |

I would go. I visit every year and I intend to visit again in December. You will love the people, enjoy the sites, and have a wonderful time. |

There is no war there. Egypt and Jordan are tourest destinations. Many, many people visit every year with out incident. I haven't been to Jordan or Egypt but I have been to several other corners of the Middle East and most of it is pretty safe. I have a lot of friends who have been to both and had no problem. I would keep it down if you are American though that isn't popular at the moment. |

It's a great opportunity and you'll probably look back upon the time as one of the peak experiences of your life. Of course, treat people with respect; try to learn a few phrases of Arabic --- people will appreciate that you are trying to appreciate their land and culture. Make some friends! Don't give into fear ... "use the Force" ;) |

No i wouldnt be afraid. There is alot of bad press out, and they all make out its worse than it actually is. Ive been to Iraq, and im still around, and im sure you'll love the experience. And it will be something to tell people about when you get back!!! |

Definitely go. It's not like you're going in war zone (Iraq)... Being afraid to visiting the middle east is like if there was a war in Mexico; so you're afraid to go to Canada.
There's different countries in the M.E....most of which are beautiful and worth visiting. |
