Would you buy food from someone selling roadside?

This reminds me of the times visiting Zambia, the locals along the road were selling giant rats, holding them up by their tails or skinned monkeys proudly on display in big enamel bowls with flies buzzing around them to keep the meat cool. Yuck! I wouldn't buy anything edible along the road, the most adventurous i have been is to buy fruit along the roads near Louis Trichardt or Hartebeespoort Dam. Apologies if the above disgusted you in anyway.

Ordinarily never because of the hygiene question marks but in winter I like to buy roasted chestnuts from a stall in Guildford.

Years ago road side people were selling illegal/undersized/out of season cray fish along the road near Port. St. Johns (Transkei), when the police went to investigate, because these people didn't have trailers/refrigrators they found that they tie the "kreef" to a string and let it stay in a long drop toilet .... yes, to keep it alive, hide it from prying eyes. I have bought a lot of snoek from a guy with a trailer and a bakkie next to the road and have never been sick, buy some prawns, make one or two and give it first to your husband to eat, if he is okay up to 6 hours later, you and the rest of the family can join in the feast too.

no to be honest as sea food is very dodgy especially prawns id stick to buying those from fish mongers or supermarket.

I've eaten loads of food from roadside stalls in loads of countries - no major problems (sometimes it's safer because everything is out in the open - no hiding in the kitchen at the back)

not frozed food, but here in pakistan, buying fruits and veggie from roadside is very common.. and cheaper then the market place

The only meaty stuff that I'll buy from a bloke roadside would be Biltong

I have bought and ate food from the roadside cos I had no other options. But I will definitely rather starve for a few hours than eat seafood from the roadside. My older family members sometimes buy fish and crab from the roadside and can somehow sense if it's fresh using their ESP.

Well, in the U.S. we don't ahve roadside vendors, but if there were some here, I wouldn't buy any food from them and I wouldn't buy any if I went to South africa, either!

I'd buy cooked food without a second thought from a bakkie - we have a great vadey man..but raw prawn i wouldn't unless you ask him about his storing methods.
