I noticed that certain categories of people don't open gifts in front of those who brought it. I find that very strange and I remember that I asked about this several times and I was told that it is part of the gift-taking tradition. People are afraid that they would be disappointed by the gift and that this would show on their faces and thus offend the one who has given the gift.
I've been raised to open gifts in front of those who give it to me so as to show my appreciation of the gift and to thank them and to tell them that they have a very good taste.
There are however some exceptions, like when you are given a gift in the club or at work, and you might be shy to open the gift in front of strangers, particularly at work where other co-workers might have missed the occasion, and announcing that others have brought you a gift would embarrass them. |

Yes..of course I'll open it. It is logic.
In latin countries is considered an offense not to open a gift when someone gives it to you.
Is supposed you have to thank for it... and the person that gave it to you, would like to see ur reaction. |

depends on the person .. if he/she is close i'll open it and love it right away regardless ..
if it's from someone i dont know much i'll open it later ... unless my parents make me do it *and they usually do* and ya i'd be like ; Thanks ... without much excitement =p |

I don't like to because just in case if I don't like it, I'm afraid that I won't be able to hide my disappointed facial expression (even if I try). But I do :-(. |

though I don't like opening any gift! I like how the gifts look like ( the wrapping, the card...). but yes I do open the gifts, and I try so hard to give my friend that "WOW " look after seeing the gift, no matter what it was.
imo, when u open their gifts in front of them, they feel that u really appreciate the idea that they bought u smthn. |

daboon man!...x

yes i would open it infront of her/him. well thats what i do anywat.

It depends. Sometimes I like to open the gift in front of them, I'm interested to know what they picked as a gift for me, and some other times, I'm surprised that that specific person brought me a gift, so I'm just happy with that whatever the gift is. |

Of coarse if it was not a wait till Christmas gift .I'm sure he or she would like to see you open the gift.A good friend always knows you best and won't disappoint you with something like an iron for a gift. |

I AM DIFFRENT . . .

yes tab3an .. why ???? because i cant wait to know whats inside that box wether its good or its bad ... gift is stills a gift it always cheers me up :D |

Well that only depends on if they are still there, or out somewhere.
I know a few times where I know I would not be around when I gave a gift to a friend. So I left it out for them / to them so that they know it came from me. Bad part is when that such person thanks the group instead of the me. But I do understand why on they did that as well. |

Rodiii..

yes i would, cause its a kind of compliment. . and to tell her/him that i like it and how kind s/he is.. etc. |

In the U.S. it is common. Then even if you do not like it, you smile and say"Thank You". It is kind of weird. Then you give it to someone you may or may not like that much. It is called (re gifting) |
