Hey if you know what you're doing and can do the job properly then it doesn't bother me. A fair chance for everyone.
Its only when I have to go to a surgeon who's experience is limited to butchering Lobolo cows, that I then start to panic! |

I think the idea is good, but it should be applied for a specified period. It should not go on for ever. |

I don't agree with it any longer. It was fine for a few years but now it seems like it's just an excuse for (sorry to say this) black people to be lazy because they know they will get the job with little effort. I don't want to have to get a job just because of the fact that I'm black. Me getting the job on merit would be good enough. |

The idea of giving equal oppertunities to the previously disadvantaged was good , but then it went all wrong and it seems as though it is now moving more towards apartheid in reverse.... |

Oooh, that topic gives me such a head ache.... (nothing against you Rox). Its just been posted and reposted so many times....
And once again, I am against it. Everyone deserves a fair chance at getting the job they're qualified for. Not because their black, indian, coloured etc.... and I believe anyone accepting a post just because of their colour should be ashamed of viewing themself in such low esteem and not being happy that they have a job because they were qualified and could do it best... |

All white matriculants looking to start careers now, were still babies in '94. Not being able to kick off their careers now is going to affect them for the lest of their lives. A big punishment for something they weren't involved in. Can we come out of the corner now ?
Can we make White a colour of the Rainbow ? |

In the first place, I agree that thistopic has been posted so many times it is boring now.
I restate what I said so many times - which has been said by other above me:
1) It was necessary in the first years of democratic South Africa.
2) If our civil servants implemented and monitored it correctly - it would have died a natural death.
3) It is now becoming unfair discrimination on whites people. |

The term should be EQUAL OPPORTUNITY. |

I think affirmative action was necessary for a time, to change some people and companies' mindsets about the ability and training of black people.
Unfortunately the 'quota' type system and scarcity of trained candidates now leads to the fast tracking of previously disadvantaged employees, leading to them being promoted to jobs before they have the experience to handle them.
That's not helping them (except financially LoL) and it sure ain't helping SA. Especialy now as we are losing white candidates who are not being offered positions they qualify for.
Enough already of AA and all its derivatives. Equal opportunity rules! |

Well maybe we should not look at how bad apharteit was yes it was violent and horrible but it did kinda work everyone is talking about how horrible the whites were to blacks but um... lets see what is S.A. known for (CRIME)(MURDER)(CORRUPTION) isnt the "BEE" and "A ACTION" just a big propoganda. Little Billy cant go ride his bike and play with his friends in the street anymore because His name will go from "billy" to "bil" or "_____" because something he owns will get stolen and thats if hes lucky |

Yes and no.
Affirmative action saw to it that very high positions are now being filled by people who have little/no training, while the people who were actually qualified are either retrenched or below the non-qualifieds and doing the latter's work.
On the other hand it helps "previously disadvantageds" who really have the intellect to get somewhere in the world.
I agree with what someone else said: it should not go on forever, and I think that 13 years has been more than long enough. Those who still moan about being previously disadvantaged will never get anywhere or change a single bit, because in 13 years' time they still haven't lifted their b*tts and still want to be spoonfed. |

The previously disadvantaged have had their chance, let us now concentrate on the presently disadvantaged. |

The need for Affirmative Action suggests that at one stage the playing fields were level and one Group were then disadvantaged. Clearly this is not the case since when Europeans colonised South Africa 400 years ago they found a tribe who had not yet discovered the wheel and had no written language. There is sufficient evidence to show that South Africa is plummeting downwards as a result of poor service and delivery as well as a lack of skills but yet the ANC continues with their racist policies. What is interesting is that throughout history and all over the World only one race has ever wanted and/or insisted on Affirmative Action. |

It is very necessary because white people prejudge black people as incompetent with out giving them a chance.
That is why we need it.
And some white people blame AA for their job loss even though they were incompetent in that job. |

Must we state the obvious???
Help the Europeans find work. They have suffered enough.
Government should retrain the SANDF vets who can no longer apply their practiced skills on the good African folk. |
