8 hour plane ride, What do I do????

I know I'm going ot be bored as heck. I've been on a several planes, probably 12 different ones but the farthest distance I've traveled was to Punta Cana, D.R. This time i'm going to be going to Spain and that'll take around 8 hours (plus an extra 2 to bus down to the airport) What the heck should I do for half of the day?

sleep!

dont sleep tonight...just sleep on the plane. read on the bus or listen to music, sleep on the plane, you will need it

silencersam
take off all your clothes run around naked inside the plane then they will knock u out and then u can sleep the whole ride there. (in hand cuffs)

Spend the time learning self defense for when you get to Punta Cana.

First it depend on the type of person you are. If you have many interested the likelihood of you being bored is really remote. On the other hand if your interest are limited to computers, ipods, and your self, your in trouble. I have made several overseas flights and have never been bored. Things I do on the plane:
Nap Read (novels) Crossword puzzles
Write Read (work related) needle work
Read (travel related) I get drinks and snacks prior to boarding the plane so that I can snack when I want to.

I take 2 bags on 1 with a change of clothes, medications, makeup. passport wallet etc that can be locked and put it in the over head. the other bag, a back pack has different items in each section so my diversions are easy to get to. Actually I enjoy the time to just relax and to either look forward and make plans for my trip. Or to think back on all the neat things I did and where I want to go next time. Good luck

Take a good book or 2, a handheld game, compact cd player sleep, and be bored. Sorry.

Try to stay up all night the night before you travel, and the whole day, too. when you get on the plane, you'll konk out.
The only thing is you might miss the refreshments so ask your neighbor to wake you up when they come. An inflatable neck pillow really helps.

Depending on the airline your flying with, some have that every person has their own little TV with 8-10 movies and other entertainment.....and then there are those sad ones where they just show a inflight move using the drop down tv's and the projectors....

To know what you will have...check the airlines website....they normally have a section where it explains how the seating are...etc....

Link below is an example for Iberia Airlines

The cases I didn't have my own little entertainment....I travel light to other countries so I make sure I have my iPOD and a good book to read if the inflight movie is crap....

Have fun in Spain.....Been there....its what you make of it... =)

My husband and I just got back from Greece, it was nearly 9 hours to get to Germany and an additional two to go from there to Athens. So I understand your dilemna! I talked with my husband, slept, ate, watched the two movies they showed, and brought those fun crossword puzzle books. If you can sleep, it's really the best thing because it truly passes the time - our flight heading out there was an all-nighter so we were exhausted and then for the home trip, it was a really early morning take off.

Sleep! I took a red-eye to Hawaii last year (a plane ride which you fly for 12 straight hours). You gotta try to sleep, and if not that, listen to an ipod or get a good book.

Eww, 8 hours!

When I'm on a plane I usually pack a bunch of stuff. Bring music, 2 different books (so you have options), magazines, paper to write to people or write whatever you desire.

I'm a big nerd and I still enjoy coloring, haha... so you could bring that. A deck of cards to play solitaire. Sleep is always an option. If you have a portable dvd player or small gaming system, those would do.

Puzzle books... like sudoku, crosswords, word searches, etc.

If you have any hobbies, bring them along somehow. (I don't know what yours are so I can't be more helpful there).

Also you could get creative. Look at other people on the plane and make up stories to yourself. My friend and I did that while waiting for a concert to start, it was very amusing.

So there's a few suggestions. Good luck!

Bring a portable DVD player and bring really LONG movies. If you watch the Lord of the Rings series of movies you wouldn't even get to the end of the final movie before your feet were on terra firma in Spain.

Gabriel
Listen to iPod, read book or magazine, watch a movie, play your electronic games (ex: Nintendo DS, PSP, GameBoy etc...), play board games, play card games... There's a whole bunch of things you can do. I should know because I go to Spain every year to visit my family there and I also have to put up with the 8 hour plane ride, but for me it's fun. I'm going next week!!! Hope I helped!!! :-)

Airlines really try to provide good in-flight entertainment on long distance flights. The airline’s website may list the films & music available and may even give the menu. However, you can’t absolutely count on the in-flight entertainment.

Bring one or more books that you have started and know you like. It is really annoying to open a new book on a flight and realize you don't find it interesting. Things like an I-Pod, Gameboy or PSP, MP3 player, and non-electronic options like crossword puzzles are a good idea.

More than about 6 hours in an airplane is really tough, especially if you are in economy class. The result is usually called "jet lag".

The time change is part of "jet lag", but only part. For example, people experience jet lag when traveling from North America to South America even when they don't change time zones. Dehydration caused by dry air in the cabin is as important as the time change, and dehydration can be cumulative + aggravated by your environment/activities before the flight. Jet lag can be much worse on the return leg of a relatively short trip because you never really recovered from the lag incurred on the first leg. It can also be aggravated by what you do between trips.

I have not found anything that eliminates jet lag, but staying hydrated helps reduce it. Water and non-carbonated liquids are best. Avoid drinking a lot of anything with caffeine, including colas. Lots of alcohol also aggravates the dehydration and you may have a hangover before the end of a long flight.

Wear clothing that is comfortable. Especially avoid tight clothing or shoes - your body will swell during a long flight.

Sleeping on the flight (even if it isn't very good sleep) also helps. The seats are MUCH, MUCH better in business and first class on long distance flights so upgrade if you can. If you can't upgrade, select a window seat so you can pile extra pillows & blankets against the interior of the cabin to lean against for a bit of extra comfort. A sleep mask (like www.mindfold.com) and earplugs may help you sleep.

You can choose to take something to help you sleep on the plane, but try it first. Many sleep aids can make you groggy long after you need to wake up. I just use aspirin.

Get up and walk around every few hours. Do some stretching exercises - there is usually room by the exterior doors.

If you have a long layover during the trip, check with the airline(s) to see if you can purchase ($25 to $50) a 1-day pass to their airport lounge. Lounges offer a comfortable, safe place to wait between flights and refreshments are included in the membership. Some lounges even have showers (a Godsend after a long flight). Delta's Crown Room and United's Red Carpet Club are examples.

You may be wasted when you get to your destination, even if you fly business or first class. Don't schedule anything important the day you get there. At least try to avoid driving a car - take taxis.

Speed your body's adjustment to local time by living on the local schedule: Stay awake until local bedtime at your destination and stay in bed until local morning. If you absolutely must take a nap make sure you don't sleep more than 3 hours. Eat meals at the normal local time. And so on.

It still takes me 1 day per hour of time change to fully adjust (a 7 hour time difference takes me a full week to get over).

?
Read a book, play a video game, watch the in flight movies, sleep so that you aren't worn out when you get there.

i own an Achros AV500. You can load dvds, tape tv shows on it, load it with music. The battery lasts about 4 hrs and they make a battery adapters for it. When I travel, I have over 60 movies to choose from, my favorite 33 Seinfeld episodes, and over 1800 songs to listen to. It has a 100gb harddrive. Some folks read, do puzzle books or play video games (PSP or DS). Depends what you are into I guess.
