A bit overweight person on a plane?

we are travelling this weekend, and i just wanted to know something; my sister is a bit overweight and i was wondering if she is going to have to pay extra for another seat. if say i was going to sit beside her on the plane would that make any difference?

How much is a "bit" overweight? Are we talking 5-10 pounds here or is her *** a fair bit larger than the seat? Can she do up the seatbelt without needing a belt extender? Is she able to walk down the aisle of the plane without problem? These are the questions you need to ask yourself.

If she's just a little overweight and not farking huge, then she should be fine. The ticket agent will usually have a judgement call on this if they feel the person won't fit in a seat.

If her *** fits in the seat without spilling over into the next one, then she's fine.

If she doesn't need a belt extender to get the belt fastened, then she should have no problem.

And if she is able to walk down the aisle without bumping into the seats on either side, then there should be no issue.

An extra set is generally not need as long as she can fit in it. I am overweight myself and fly alot and have never been asked to buy another set. I weigh about 280. And if you are sitting next to her the arm rest usually lifts up and will give her more space as long as you don't mind.

you should contact the airline you are flying and see what the procedure/terms are. You don't want to embarress your sister. This is a delicate subject. My partner flew his sister here and was worried about the same thing. To avoid any problems he just booked her a 1st class ticket as the seats are a little roomier....good luck! :)

A bit overweight? If you think you have to buy an extra seat, you probably do. Call the airline and ask.

Stephy
It depends on where you sit on the plane, first class or coach and then if you're on a large jet or a smaller plane as to how big the seats are. Also, call the airline and find out what they say. If your sister doesn't mind sitting beside you then it may not matter and she may not need to purchase another seat.

I agree with jenncparker. i am quite overweight and never have any trouble with the seats. I need a seat belt extension, which the flight attendent gives me very courteously. having a family member next to me is also nice. Have a great trip.

All Saints Rocks
It depends on how overweight the person was. If you feel comfortable sitting next to her and she does then you shouldn't have to pay extra for another seat. I would ring the company that you are flying with and ask how big the seats are approximately.

I don't know what you mean by "a bit overweight," but the only time a person needs to book an extra seat is if they are morbidly obese and cannot get a lap belt around their waist.

To me, being "obese" means being at least 30 pounds overweight. So when you say that she is overweight, I'm imagining that she's not that big at all.

kellybug
The seats are pretty big. Ands if she can't fit in them then you should call the airline and they should find a seat big enough for her because they would know that it isn't her fault that they make the seats only big enough for kids! But if they reply that that's all the seats they have for cheap, then their some greedy, little, fat,JERKS! Good luck!
