I am also extremely scared of flying!! I take rescue remedy - it helps a little. Maybe ask your doctor for some calming medicine. Virgin Atlantic does a course to get rid of your fear. They have a 98% success rate! it costs 200pounds but I think its worth it because i know that I would love to fly without being scared so i can travel the world! if none of those help just try think positive and remeber that you got more chance of being struck by lightning then beig in a plane crash - and dont listen to what your sister is saying she is just making it worse-my family does the exact same thing!!!! Good luck and dont stress too much cos I am sure your holiday wil be so mch fun!!!!

Continental has an excellent record. They haven't had a fatal flight since 1991. That's about when you were born.

she is probably just trying to scare you more. Flying is safer than traveling by car ,statistically there are more people hurt or killed by auto, per miles traveled than by air.

Dont worry too much. I hate flying as well but i just think about how much fun i am going tohave at the destination. I have flown Aerlingus, they are fine but there is not enough to do on the plane to take your mind off the flight. I love flying with Virgin. They are great! There is loads to do and the flight will be over before you know it. I fly to NY about 6 times a year.

I was at a meeting yesterday and someone mentioned a person who used hypnosis to overcome their fear. Another person share a similar story of someone who had 16 flights under their belt after using hypnosis.

Don't know if it would work for but I do know hypnosis is not all about the circus tricks hypno performers tout on stage.

Fine a licensed hypnotherapists and get references first.

Relax and take something to read or an MP3 player and you will be fine

Do some research on accident rates for different forms of transportation. Statistically, driving in a car is more dangerous than flying commercially. But I bet you ride in a car almost every day, right? You probably know several people that have been in car wrecks. Some of them may have been seriously injured, or worse. You probably know lots of people that have flown in an airliner, too. Were any of them in an accident in a plane? Probably not, I'd bet.

Air travel seems dangerous to people because when an accident does happen, it involves possibly hundreds of people at a time. But if you check the record, you could find that many many more people were hurt or killed in auto accidents in this country than were while flying. It's all a matter of perceived vs. real risk.

your sister is a big help, poke her in the eye. Dont know why youre terrified, but dont need to...if you are and its going to be a big problem for you share this with your parents. your family doc might help you out with something.

Have a look at the BBC News link below, which not only puts everything in context (i.e. flying is the safest mode of transport) but also talks about how many people actually survive an air crash (most of them) and what you can do to improve your own chances of survival.

I fly all over the world for my work and I used to be a very nervous traveller. The trick is to relax as much as you can, get a blanket, have a snooze, have a few drinks (whoops, sorry I forgot you're 15), and watch the in-flight entertainment. Don't worry about the bumpy bits of turbulence - the wings aren't going to fall off. Just think, at the end of it all you'll be in the Big Apple.

I am scared as well on planes, and each time I have to fly I have nightmares about crash.....do not worry. The critical moment in an airplane is take off and landing that last 10 minutes between those 2 moments nothing can happen
