Air crashes?!!!? Why today?

In the last two weeks there have been at least 2 air crash with lots of dead people and 6 acccidents fortunately without any casualties...
Why is it happening now and not in the past years where flying wasn't so safe? What's going on? Can anybody tell me why, since I start being afraid of flying and I've never been.

I don't know! But I've noticed that too!
I'm not really scared of flying - I'd really rather not, but I can do it when I have to.
I'm actually flying in a couple of weeks and since all these accidents have popped up, I'm starting to sweat about it.
Sorry, no answer there but I'm glad someone else has noticed.

In the USA alone there are in the region of 90000 flights per day. The total for the whole planet must be nearly incalculable.
The number of accidents are so few and so rare that when one does happen it hits the headlines.
Aeroplanes are now so reliable, possibly due to design changes from earlier incidents, that 99.9% of all accidents are caused by pilot error.
I would lay odds that the recent tragedy in Spain will have been caused by a human mistake.
I would be more frightened about crossing the road than about flying.

Although it is scary for most people, flying is still much safer than driving.

As to why there are so many air crashes lately, you cannot generalize the cause as it includes a lot of stuffs and all crashes are different. There are a lot of different reasons to why a plane crash from pilots mistakes to engine failures down to human error when they're doing the overhaul.

Things tend to happen in cycles like earthquakes, they occur and then there's nothing for ages then there'll be two or three.Same with train crashes.
Maybe it's simply coincidence, flying is still one of the safest ways to travel though.

Techwing
Airliner crashes are extraordinarily rare. They seem common because news media only report the crashes … they don't say anything about all the other flights that arrive safely every day.

Crashes are less common now than they have ever been. However, a lot more people are flying than ever before, and when the number of flights increases, of course the number of crashes increases, too, even though the number of crashes in terms of probability and percentage is dropping.

The Third World also has an influence, as air travel in developing countries is often much less safe than it is in the U.S., Europe, Japan, etc., and so there are more crashes. Statistically, Africa is among the most dangerous places to fly, and some countries, such as Indonesia, have bad records as well. Some African airlines are even banned in Europe because of their very poor safety records. But you're fine on an airline from a major industrialized country—Air France, British Airways, JAL, American … they are all safe.

I sometimes get a little anxious when I'm flying on planes, but then I think that there are thousands of planes that fly everyday all around the world...if you look at the probability of you being in one of the planes that crash every now and again, there is certainly always a chance, but it is very very very small!
Probably have better odds of winning the lottery, yippee!

air crashes aren't uncommon you know, it's not just recently that this is happening!

Half the time if it's not serious the public don't even know!

jamupz
Yes we are having a spate of crashes recently..but it doesn't mean that anything strange is happening.

It just happens that way sometimes.
