Read a good book like Michael Crichton's Air Frame. I guarantee you won't worry about a little shaking any more.
Oh, and remember that the wings are out at the sides flexing up and down, kind of like when you bend a hanger back and forth.
Take a piece of hanger with you on the plane. Watch the tip of the wing flex while you are flying and bend the hanger every time the wing flexes. When the hanger breaks you can think about how many thousands of hours that airplane wing has been flexing and wonder how many more it will take before it snaps, just like the hanger did, in your hands, while you were watching the wing, flexing, up and down, over and over.
I actually like to talk about this when I am sitting next to someone who is really nervous :) |

Relax. It is just a bit of turbulence. The pilots will do everything possible to keep the plane from shaking. Sometimes though, if there is a bad storm, turbulence is unavoidable and there will be a lot of shaking. I have been on flights where I thought the plane was going to fall out of the sky, but it did not and I am still alive. |

Remain calm, breathe deeply and remember your chances of being involved in an aircraft accident are about 1 in 11 million. On the other hand, your chances of being killed in an automobile accident are 1 in 5000. You're much likelier to crash in a car, a plane is more publicized because of the number of people involved at once and, well, it is an object falling out of the sky. |

Airplanes are built to withstand turbulence - and they do - every day - all the time.. and yours will too - - so, relax, close your eyes and think of someplace pleasant and if you are going someplace pleasant, remember that the plane will get you there so much safer and faster than ever possible in the past.. its a real life time machine - beam me up scotty - - ok, so it shakes a bit - no problem.. |

I worked for and airline and it wasnt until my 4th year when I was flying from Atlanta to Vegas. Once you get over the Grand Canyon, air can become unstable and can be turbulant. I was lucky enough to clear First Class on that flight (we have to stand by for seats and go space available). Id always get nervous when there would be turbulance. Id grip the seat, hyperventilate, the works...even if I was flying in uniform after getting off of work one night and going somewhere for my days off.
Anyway, there was a pilot from another airline who was flying space available as well, reading his paper, calm as day and could tell I was getting tense, so he leans over and said, "Its just pot holes in the sky." And it made so much sense. From that day on, I never got nervous again during rough air. Just made sure I had my seatbelt on and just breathe through it. Now Im usually asleep before we're out of the gate.
The important thing is to remember to first, breathe deep....dont hyperventilate. Keep your eyes forward, dont look out the window and watch the wing. And lastly, just repeat to yourself, "Its just potholes in the sky" |

Don't look out of the window!
And if you see something sitting on the wing, SHUT YOUR EYES! |
