Airline Question (lighting)?

Why do the dim lights on prepare for take off? Thanks!

Show all answers

Tommy
it is to leave more power to the engine for the take off

mike man
caution reasons

Gerald J
On nightime flights the lights are dimmed to help you adjust your eyes to the darkness outside should their be a reason to evacuate the plane, it also makes the emergency lighting on the floor along the aisles more visable.

well it must take a lot of energy to takeoff

AdkG
You talked when your still at the gate?
That may be when the plan switches to internal power.
Up till then it was getting juice from the ground.

The dim lights on prepare for take off because yes.
Hope helped.

It's policy. I'd guess it reduces electrical load on the generators in case an emergency stop needs to be made.

So that more power is available for the rest of the system - takeoff is a critical time.

Matthew C
It gives more power to operating systems on the aircraft

they turn of the lights so none of the light currents or any other electricity messes with the technical stuff in the front of the plane. (they dont like to crash.)

Incase the plane crashes they don't want everyone getting electrocuted and exploding. They'll want to identify your corpse.
