It's not quite as brutal as some would suggest. Airlines don't just change things without a reason and in any event, if they do, they tell you. It depends how you booked but a notification, if by you booked on the internet, should have been sent to you (check your spam filters) or if booked via a travel agent, they should have told you. If no-one told you, you should ask the people you booked through why the hell you were not advised... I do not know how you know the early flight still had seats (!) if the airline "bumped" you, it is quite likely that they did not have the seats and were overbooked - in which case you should receive compensation. Contrary to opinion, some airline bloke does not wake up bad tempered and just decide to offload a load of people for no reason. |

Airlines may do whatever they wish.
If you read the 'fine print' on your ticket, it userally says that the airline can change your planes for whatever reason....something like that.
how do I know? i had a boring day once! |

it might have been due to some schedule change...maybe you were going to misconnect so they put you the next best thing. i would give them a call to see exactly why your flights were changed and what your options are if those new flights dont work... |

They must have notified you some way, and you can always ask them It may have been an accident. |

yes. Sometimes airlines cancel flights BECAUSE it was not fully booked- or they decide they have to carry more cargo then passengers.
Now, they are not allowed to cancel flights because the cost of the fuel outweighs the passengers that will be on-board, but they can claim it was a maintenance problem. |

who knows how many they had to pick up in the next stop before your final destination....Morally they can't do that, but Legally Yes, because if you will take them to court always they will have cooked legaL EXPLANATIONS to defend themselves and it will be too costly to fight them back. |

All the seats may have been paid for, but everyone may not have checked in yet and it may look like there are less people than there actually are. They can change your flight as long as they give you notice, but you should make a complaint about it if you are not happy and especially if it was not entirely necessary and you did not volunteer to be put on another flight. Sometimes they'll give you an incentive for it. |
