Captain Art Griego

Airline pilots: Do you ever force your crew to sing songs from musicals?

In my day, I was pretty well-known for running a tight ship and doing everything possible to maintain order and morale. On long, transpacific flights I'd often force my crews to sing along with me to great Gilbert & Sullivan musicals. One of my favorites is the H.M.S. Pinafore. A typical call and response dialogue between my flight crew and I might go something like this:

CAPT: My gallant crew, good morning.

ALL (saluting): Sir, good morning!

CAPT: I hope you're all quite well.

ALL: Quite well; and you, sir?

CAPT: I am in reasonable health, and happy to meet you all once more.

ALL: You do us proud, sir!

SONG -- CAPTAIN

CAPT: I am the Captain of the (state flight number and airline here);

ALL: And a right good captain, too!

CAPT: You're very, very correct,
And allow me to be direct,
I command a right good crew!

ALL: We're very, very good,
And be it understood,
He commands a right good crew.

CAPT: Though related to a peer,
I can recover from a stall, and steer,
And once in flight, although I'm sometimes pale ;
I am never known to quail
At the fury of a gale,
And I'm never, never sick at in the air!

ALL. What, never?

CAPT. No, never!

ALL. What, never?

CAPT. Hardly ever! (OK sometimes.)

ALL. He's hardly ever sick in the air!
Then give three cheers, and one cheer more,
For the hardy Captain of (state flight number and airline again)!

Well this is very interesting! No, I have never done this, but good idea! My crew often needs a morale booster

OK, you're into musicals, yet you repeatedly insist that you're not gay. Denying your true identity will only eat away at your soul, Arty. Don't fight it.

Schmeckel Deckel
I don't know how you can joke when the American Musical as we know it is in dire peril! Light opera like Gilbert and Sullivan is nearly extinct! Sniff... it's enough to make a grown man sing....

"Don't cry for me Argentina!
In my heart, I never left you..."

Spanky G2
I can see how you got along really well with the stewards, raising their.... moral.

I never thought of that... my crew will love this! I'm printing it in multiple as I type... lol

I'm not a pilot, but my construction crew will love me for this... just a few alterations and a name for our current project will do just the trick!

Great job there Captain! I bet if you had been in the Navy with me, you would have gotten all of the Semen to swab your poop decks huh?

Instant Star Just Add Coffee
That's hot. Do you do any wicked awesome dance moves?

That would be so sexy, the uniform, the singing, and the dance moves.

*Swoon*

I got a little flustered just picturing it all.

Dan
NOW I really know what happens after I salute a flight off the blocks. I am glad to stay on the ground, I think.

Regards,
Dan

Are you kidding? Never heard of such a thing. Maybe you already knew some of them.
