Airlines advertise CHEAP FLIGHTS but they become expensive at the end of the booking. Is this fair trading? |

It is as long as they disclose the fees before you must decide to purchase. If the fees are added after you "click" to purchase, then yes, that is deceptive and should be reported to the Trade Authority.
However... there are so many possibilities for re-routings, excess baggage, airports changing fees charged to airlines, etc. that at best the airline can only give a best estimate until the time of booking. |

no it's a rip off and according to all the newspapers and tv ryanair is the worst one for this |

Very frustrating!!!!! They can add on tax at the end making the flights the same price as everyone else. I don't bother with these airlines any more it's not worth the hassle! |

I dont think its fair.
I always use this site http://www.saveonbookings.com
they dont advertise and the price you see in the beginning when you are looking for the flight, is the price you have to pay when you are ready to check out. Theres no extra fees added on later. |

They advertise cheap flights, but not expensive taxes. They can do this because it's the government who charges the taxes, not the airlines. I must admit, last time I used Easyjet, I paid all the supplements, which weren't too expensive, and it was a luxury to stroll onto the plane and chose where to sit, ahead of the queue. In the past it's been like a race to try and find a decent seat, so I'm glad we now have that option, on what is still a reasonable price for a flight. |

it is yeah, the flights are cheap, but is taxes, fuel supplements undercapacity charges and all that extra nonsense that they have to charge otherwise they would go bankrupt pretty quickly! |

Yes, they can charge what they like.
there is plenty of competition in the airline flights industry, so there is no need for price regualtion.
Just shop else where if you are unhappy - you have plenty of airlines to choose from. |

thats how it goes im afriad. there are a whole host of different fares for each flight, the cheepest sell first then they gradually get more expensive as the flight fills up.
internets sites often show the cheepest fare for the flight but it may/probably has already sold out of this price, so once you put in your dates and the system checks availability then the price goes to the actual available fare. the site isnt trying to cheat you or lying about the price it simply has already sold out of that fare for the date you requested.
also some internet sites still advertise fares minus tax and for the most part tax is now extortionate. a fare to New York for instance can be as little as £60 but the tax £200 (i sold one just like this the other day!)
if you are looking at a charter or no frills airline then there are other added costs, like charges for baggage and food.
my best advice is use a travel agent where you can and for no frills / charter airlines just dont take the fare for granted until you get to the end, you always have the option not to go ahead, they cant force you to buy the ticket. |

No, I don't think so. The cost of the flight is one price, the extras cost extra. Yes, those extras are essentials (luggage etc) but they are clearly marked and there are no "hidden" charges with these things. |

It's the tax that hammers it. |

I think the authorities are looking into that as mis selling.....they advertise for about £30 and when you add in all the taxes, baggage allowances, etc etc it can more than double the price...but still cheap though. |
