I thought all planes gave you snacks or meals depending on length |

Remember that TSA considers anything liquid, gel, paste - basically anything that you can't clearly call solid - a "threat" and you can only get it through security if it's in a container that's less than 3.4 ounces, and then put in a one-quart clear ziploc bag. So, things like yogurt, jello, and the likes are probably more hassle than they are worth to try to get through security.
That being said, I usually consider the people around me when I'm traveling, and try not to eat anything too smelly. A tuna and cracker snack pack may sound good, but everybody 3 rows ahead and behind you will probably be annoyed.
I usually bring granola bars, and then I'll eat whatever they are handing out, if anything.
If your flight is very long (overseas), then the food they serve on the airplane should be sufficient to fill you up, and you can just bring little snacks for in between meals. Try not to overload your carry-on bag with food.
I also highly recommend buying some bottled water once you get through security. You can take this on the airplane, and if you get stuck on the ground waiting for weather, traffic, or whatever, you will have something to wet your whistle. |

Take whatever you want, food wise, that will fit in your carry on. |

Granola bars, candy, chips, poptarts... that's what I'm bringing on a flight soon :). Dried fruit, such as dried mango is good, but be sure to drink lots of water. |

Every time I have flown internationally the airline adequately supplied us with food and drink. I never felt esp hungry. But since you're going w kids it may be a different story--bring lots of games, puzzles and activities for them. Maybe you could not show the books to them until you get on the plane, then they'd be interested and surprised. . .! |

goldfish, teddy grahams, any type of crackers are always good, cereal bars such as special k and smart start/healthy heart. sometimes you feel like something sweeter so hello kitty gummy snacks are good as well as yo-gos. the line of 100 calorie packs have many different options so i'd suggest some of those b/c they are individually wrapped and small enough to pack so that you aren't lugging a whole box of crackers with you. you'll never know what you'll feel like so it's good to bring a variety and you can always get a beverage on the plane, but many airlines now charge for food, so it's best to pack snacks instead! |
