Airport/Plane Horror Experiences?

Everyone has at least 1.

Just flew back in from England last night & MAN, are my arms tired! (knock, knock. Who's there? 1960. & I want my old joke back)

So when I got to the UK on the 18th, I was almost sent right back by customs/border staff simply for not having my friend's street address on me. (a problem that would've easily been solved w/ a phone call) THAT was scary. But they let me slide...

As for the plane ride, MAN I hate when there's air turbulence. I keep thinking the wings'll snap right off! Scary sh*t!

Any other tales of lost luggage, rude attendants, etc?

I went to Idaho to visit family over spring break, and on my way back, I was sitting in the back of the plane (because I was flying by myself, and that is where they seat the unaccompanied minors) and there was this guy and his screaming son who came to take their seat kiddie-corner behind me, his son was screaming non-stop, it was so bad that the flight attendants had to speak to the father of the child several times, I have never seen a kid behave so badly in my life! This went on for probably the first hour & 1/2 we were on the plane, and this was a three hour flight! so then, after I finally got off of the plane, and we landed in Minneanapolis, so we pull in and, just my luck, it's snowing! My flight was delayed over two hours and I had to sit at my gate with the unaccompanied minor chaperone for a long time, which wasn't horrible, because she was a nice lady and everything, I just didn't want to spend two hours sitting next to someone I don't know.....so we're finally told that the plane is ready for boarding, good, I can finally go home, so after sitting on the plane, we're informed that we are EIGHTH in line to be de-iced, and there is only one runway operating, so there's another hour and 1/2 of sitting on the plane, so anyways, I got to Detroit around 12 AM, and got home at 1:30, and I had to go to school the next morning.

Here's another story, this ones much shorter though :)
I was going on a cruise last summer to the mediteranian, and there was an 8 hour flight from Detroit to our connection in Frankfurt, while on the plane, my cousin and I were playing a video game together, so we were both leaning forward on the traytables (it was a racing game, very intense :p) so there was a couple in front of us, and apparently, they both decided they were going to sleep- at the same time, so they both slammed their chairs back, right into our heads! And then on the way back after the cruise, for some reason my 9 year old brother was quite suspicious looking, because they searched him with that wand thing like twice!

+ This is longer than I anticipated...

How was England Fonzie? Did you do anything exciting?

The last time I flew to the States I had a huge issue.
First, the taxi that was supposed to take me to the airport was nearly an hour late [and my mum is terrified of driving on motorways, so that was out of the question]. When I finally got to the airport, the woman at the desk said that the flight was overbooked, and I would have to return to the desk in an hour to see if I could get a seat either on that flight or on another that would be leaving about 4 hours later. I did end up getting a seat on that plane.
We all boarded, everything was fine and dandy, then after a good while on the plane, we were told that there was something wrong with the plane, so we all had to get off.
My flight was supposed to take off around 4-5 in the evening... I was still at the airport at 12am. They told us that they could no longer take us, and they would have to fly us out tomorrow and would provide to us hotels for the night.
The next day, a bus picked us up from the hotel and took us back to the airport.... only for us to find out that the flight was cancelled and we would either have to re-book the entire flight or just not go. =|

This entire time I was alone [I was meeting family on the other side]. On the second day, I was wearing the same clothes as on the first because they wouldn't return to us our suitcases when we were going to the hotels. It was just a nightmare.

I ended up travelling /all/ the way home via tube, train and bus and having to wake up early again the next day to be driven to the airport when I /finally/ got on my flight.

It was seriously a nightmare. Darn you BA!

+ Yeah, please do. =]

Took me a while to think of one (I attempt to remove all bad plane/airport experiences from memory...I know I have more than one):

Coming back from the UK, we were stopped by a bomb/fruit sniffing dog...because it smelled the bananas that we had been keeping in one of our bags (but had consumed three days earlier). That led to all of our carry-on luggage being searched...annoying, since we had to catch another flight to get home.

Edit:
Another flight, I had to get searched because I kept setting off the metal detector. Unbeknownest to me, the headband I was wearing had a metal strip in it. Here I was, with no shoes on, no belt, no jewelery, trying to figure out what was going on...and it was on my head the entire time.

Last time I was on a plane, there was a baby near the front who began crying during descent because his ears were popping, which is completely normal. Nobody on the plane showed an irritance or anything, but the father started hitting the baby! As if hitting the baby would have made it be quiet!

The poor boy couldn't have been 6 months old.

On a happier note, on that same flight there was a 3 or 4 year old boy sitting behind me who was a complete angel. He kept blowing kisses at me everytime I turned around to look at him and kept him self occupied the /entire/ flight by playing with the airplane headphones.

Since I have a brother named Mohammad, literally /every/ time I fly my whole family gets "randomly" selected for further inspection.

The last time I went to England to visit my in laws we made the mistake of going through Heathrow instead of Gatwick. We had flown out of Logan in Boston at 8:30 at night so we'd arrive early morning London time. Flight was smooth, landing was fine..

The horror part...? Well ten planes landed at Heathrow in the space of 15 minutes flooding customs with almost 2000 people and they had two customs officials working. I had gotten separated from my husband because being a citizen of the UK he went through a different area. So once I finally make it through to a customs official, I'm being grilled because I'm a married woman traveling alone..where's my husband, etc.. It took me a total of 2.5 hours to get through customs.

Never again will I go through Heathrow, if I have to go England it's going to be Gatwick.. if I need to go anywhere else in Europe.. it's Amsterdam. I'm sure this isn't as bad as some peoples stories, but dealing with customs when you haven't slept and your body thinks it is 3 in the morning is definitely not fun.

I sat between two half-ton lards on a one way 9 hour flight from Wichita, Kansas to Honolulu! Don't make me relive that hell!

Deep Thinkin' Dude
I once had a lay-over going from Detroit to Dallas, en route to Phoenix. We land in Dallas and I simply came out of like gate A10 to gate A11 to get on my connector flight.
They had me do a complete search again (just like I did in Detroit), when I literally never left the airplane/airport! When I got snippy with the security staff, letting them know that I was just coming from one airplane to another airplane, they radioed in several back-up security people, took me into a little 'interrogation' room, did their search of me and my carry-on, everything just short of a full cavity search, almost missed my connector, etc...and finally let me back on the plane.
All this hassle could have been so easily avoided if they just looked at how my connection flights were set-up!
I was seeing red I was so mad.

You should watch video of how far those wings will bend! There is no way they are going to snap off.
My horror story is that I paid $1200 to fly from California to Michigan and America West tried to put me on the stand by list! What the hell!

I love to travel, but I hate to fly!! The worst flight ever was from Cleveland to Brooklyn, NY (Actually LaGuardia Airport) and no it wasn't because of the designations were so bad! Everything that could go wrong did on this one flight, it was over the Thanksgiving weekend back in 1992. The flight was delayed, and once we were heading toward the runway we almost ran into a smaller plane that crossed our path, bad omen! There was so much turbulence people all around were using their little b*rf bags and of course, to be gross, the sound and smell of it makes you ever sicker, I did not have to reach for mine though, and once we landed the man in back of us did not wait for the plane to stop fully opened the overhead door and clobbered my husband when his briefcase fell out of it..oh yea they also lost our luggage until the next day when they delivered it to my in-laws where we were staying, I almost think I misremember this cause it was so bad, but I have others who confirm it!!

lost luggage - every other year with United
delays - Delta and RyanAir
rude attendants - AirFrance(business class)
My last flight was to Cancun, Mexico from Los Angeles,CA. I got up at 4 am. and got there at 4 pm. I thought that was harsh. Gettting home was WAY worse. It was just one delay after another. When I complained that if I missed my flight from Salt Lake City, the flight attendant flippantly said, "That is what subs are for."

I guess I'll follow the London theme. In 2004 I went to Kenya for 2 weeks (From Chicago) and on the flight back, I had a 7 hour layover at Heathrow Airport. Cool, I had never been to London before and thought that was just enough time to hop on the tube for a whirlwind tour of the major attractions.

As I stepped off the plane and into the terminal, I was greeted by a large sign alerting travelers of a "one day tube strike". That's right, I had waited my entire life to see London and they choose to shut down the city's subway system on the day I arrive. So we hop on a double-decker bus - bad idea during rush hour on a weekday - and got as far as Hyde Park before we could take it no longer. We got off the bus and started walking. In approx. 4 hours, we walked the length of Hyde Park, went by Buckingham Palace, Westminster Cathedral, Parliament and Big Ben, up the Thames, by the London Eye, to Picadilly Circus, and caught the express train back to Heathrow in time to make our flight home.

My luck was bad that day, but I would not be denied.

Practically every other year, I have to sit my *** down on an airplane seat for 18-20 hours, and another 18 hours back. Imagine that. The stewardesses are usually tired and really cranky, so whenever you ask for something oh say...in the time after the first 10 hours, they just end up forgetting you and your request.
Oh, and the food ALWAYS sucks. Always. Never ask me "fish or chicken."

Edit: Oh, the people you sit next to make a BIG factor in the ride...Once, I sat next to a huge man that had B.O. and who knows what else..Then another time, I sat next to an old woman that was really sick, and she kept on using this menthol oil, and I felt nauseous and claustrophobic the whole time, not to mention that being in an airplane for that long would already cause claustrophobia.

So, what did you think of little old England?

I've only flown once {ok, technically it was twice!} in my life. When I was 13, my mum and I went to Malta, and we flew out from Heathrow. Never again! As soon as I walked into the airport, I just hated the whole atmosphere of the place. In fact, it must have been really bad, as I have almost completely blocked out the memories of that trip!

When we took off in the plane the air pressure must of done something with my head/ears because they started to feel as if they were going to "pop" and they ached so bad.
Haha.
