Airport check in times?

Ignoring the latest scares, does anyone go to the airport later than the time they tell you? it always has the time on the tickets at 3 hours before departure and this is when the desks open. I just wondered - if you went an hour later say, are the queues less because most people go at the three hour time? (it says the last check in is 1 hour before departure).Does anyone do this? we always go for the desk opening time. Just curious...

honest opinion, you still can check in 1 hour prior to flight departures. flights for check in closes about 40-50 minutes before the departure. it differs for different airports and airlines.
most frequent travellers i know often turn up at the airport 1 hour before departure. and they always do an early check in so they would just have to grab their boarding passes. most of them don't even have lugguage to check in!
and it's not necessary that the queue would be shorter, there still might be queues, especially if the airline is handling more than 1 flight at that point of time. there was once i was travelling on northwest and i went to the airport 1 1/2 hour before departure 'cause i missed my train to the airport. the queue was horribly long! i waited for 30 minutes before a staff came, combing the queue for passengers on my flight... so 2 hours before is definitely fine =D

I always get there for at least 3 hours before so that I am there when the desk opens. Invariably they are already open when I get there even if it is more than 3 hours before check in time. It is always best to get there early in my opinion as that way you can get a choice of better seats.

you should aim to be at least 2 hour before departure time. if you leave things to the last minute there is too much that can go wrong. but if you have insurance that covers missed departure relax a little. i try to travel at night so that i dont need to worry about traffic. i am going away in august and i will be giving myself plenty of time.

It would be safe to be at airport 3 hours before departure of an international flight. Some countries have longer queues and stricter security than others, so it could take quite a long time to reach the waiting area to board the plane.

i always get there a little early, where i am it does take quiet some time to get throught the check points, but i think that mabey in a smaller airport , yea you could get there later, if ya wanted!

Mojo Risin
At the moment i would go as early as possible due to parking restrictions, increased security and holiday season approaching.

Don't leave it too late thinking the queue will be smaller - it takes about 1 hour just to get through security as all the flights are trying to go through the same checkpoint, not just yours.

Being late will add a lot of unnecessary stress to your trip.

Do what they tell you and be at the front of the queue!!

srracvuee
there is always a queue early or late /but it all depends where your flying from! i walk straight into my airport i hr before and after security check i go through to departure lounge and the half hour before boarding just passes without you noticing it

Yes, if its a domestic flight then 1 hour, if a package hol, then 2 hours. 3 hours is a bit OTT!

n_that
I couldn't tell you. In my opinion it just isn't worth the stress trying to check in late. I just get there 3 hours before and relax safe in the knowledge that I will be on the plane!
