Depends on the IQ level of the security guards.

I know officially they are not suppose to, but I have personally gone to the gate with a lame excuse. I have friends who have taken their kids all the way to the plane.

Unfortunately, the airlines will not allow people to have a friend or family member accompany a minor aboard flights to see them to their final destination. Instead, the airlines will coordinate between the customer service agents at the airport and the crew members aboard the airplane to ensure that children traveling alone complete their trips safely. Typically, when the child is checked in at the departure airport, the airline will have a customer service agent accompany the child to the gate and make sure that he or she boards the correct plane. From there, the flight attendants look after the child during the flight. Once the plane arrives at its destination, the flight attendants will have the child escorted off the plane with another customer service agent at the arrival airport. This customer service agent accompanies the child to baggage claim so that he or she can meet up with the friends or family members that are supposed to pick the child up. To make sure that the child is not given to the wrong people, the customer service agent verifies their identities by checking their IDs with the paperwork that accompanies the child.

You should not have to worry about needing a friend or family member flying with the boy. The airlines will look after him very well and make sure that he meets up with his father in New York.

either pay the unaccompanied minor fee, or if they still do it (somebody call me on this!) you used to be able to get a gate pass to take somebody to the gate...

Yea, u have to contact the airport and ask them for a personnel escort. It won't be cheap though. Also what is a "chuzine"?

You may have a problem. Airlines have special policies and, sometimes, fees for unaccompanied minors. An escort may be required for a 13 year old and they will charge you an extra fee for it. Also, a parent or responsible adult may be required to sign a consent form.

How did you buy a ticket for a 13-year old without being told this by the airline or the travel agent? Did you not tell the airline or travel agent that the passenger is 13? Or, did you buy the ticket online and tell the website that he is 18? (Websites normally will not sell tickets for unaccompanied minors.)

I strongly suggest that you call the airline immediately and tell them. (Don't call the airport, as some other people said in their answers. The airport has absolutely nothing to do with this.) They will provide all of the requirements and advise you of any extra fees. Otherwise, you may take him to the airport and have a lot of problems.

you have to talk to the airline and have him travel as an unaccompanied minor. The airline will make sure that someone takes him from the check in counter to the waiting lounge and then onto the plane. At the other end they will make sure that he gets off the plane, gets his luggage and will be handed to the correct person at the other end.

It's not the same person looking after him all the way, but they will hand him onto the next person to make sure he gets there.

There is usually a charge for this so you should call the airline directly.

Contact the airline and let them know you have a minor flying alone and request that a flight attendant help him. Someone will escort him to his gate and make sure he gets on and off and show him where to go when the plan lands. I don't know if they charge for that but it would be worth it to make sure your pal doesn't get lost. The airlines are really good about this (at least they used to be I am not so sure now that the airline industry is tanking).

I am 15 and when I was 14 I traveled to MN. I had a person escort me and my brother. I think it;s a rule that they have to escort a person under the age of 18 to and from the plane. I think thats how it goes. thats what happened to me.
