Airway customs?

It is my first flight and I know nothing if customs. Origonaly, I was going to buy chocolate as a gift to my family and friends. It's cheap and light weight. However, I was told that you cannot bring food over. I will be flying into Paris and BAck to the US out of Italy. Can I bring chocolate back since it's factory sealed? Is there a quantity issue? Please help!

Pack the chocolate in your luggage / baggage.
I live in France and bring back loads of edible stuff in my luggage when I go to New York.

BullShit Man
yes you can bring the chocolates, and no there's no quantity issue.do as you will.

x_ill
you can bring chocolate to your family and friends over there, you cannot bring it as carry on though, just pack it in your luggage, and all is well.

Chocolates are fine. They just don't want vegetables, meat, dairy, etc that can carry over diseases.

ScubaSteve
Yes you can bring back chocolate, especially since it is sealed. To make things easy, just pack it in your bag and don't declare it.

chocolate is no problem. it's fruit and veggies that don't fly.

monetspicasso
sure you can, but you may not bring back things like fruits, veggies and uncooked meats

US are the funny ones - U.S. Department of Agriculture regulations prohibit tourists from bringing fresh, dried, and canned meats and meat products from most foreign countries. If any meat is used in preparing a product, it is prohibited. Bakery items and all cured cheeses are admissible. Imported foods are also subject to requirements of the Food and Drug Administration and may be seized upon inspection if, in the opinion of the FDA, they pose any health risk of any kind. Please check the Department of Agriculture's list of approved products!

You normally can take food as long as it is in your checked luggage, however you will want to check with the specific airlines you are flying on to be sure.

Stimpson J. Cat
Ask the airline. Call their information #, they should know.
