Mr. X.
Of chords you are!!!!

Lol!!!

Don't see why not, it's still hand luggage.

Chris N
I saw one on a plane from Germany recently - check the small print on your booking receipt though, I think you should
be alright.

I believe you can (weight limits are of course ok). But some smaller airlines (and/or smaller planes) have restrictions re: maximum dimensions.

Your safest bet is to contact the airline directly. And if you have a ticket that's being serviced by a different carrier (e.g., Delta, being serviced by Lufthansa), be sure to ask for the restrictions of the servicing airline. I've gotten good info from airlines via email for questions such as this.

Happy Travels!

probably. whenever my brother wants to bring his guitar on a trip, he brings it in the plane

I am pretty sure that you are allowed to bring a guitar as a carry-on luggage. I have seen many people do it before.

I travel for work frequently within the US- I carry mine onboard in a gig bag without any problems. Sometimes I have to gate check it, and I've done this dozens of times with never any problem( I paid $10 for the guitar at a yard sale, so if it gets trashed, well I'm out $10). A few suggestions-
1-Call the airline, let them know what you want to do, and they should let you know their policy. I'm not sure what Aer Lingus or Ryan's policies are- if worst comes to worst, and you have a 2-bag allowance, stuff everything in one bag, get lots of bubble wrap and tape and wrap your guitar in it.(BTW, loosen the strings..)

I dont think so

E.U. Regulations now say "One piece of hand luggage only" so if you are carrying your guitar onto the plane, there is a good chance you wouldn't be able to take a handbag or holdall. You are not allowed a holdall/small suitcase and a handbag any more.
Check it out and be prepared to have to check in your guitar.

Tim
You should,
It just depends on what type of aircraft you are flying on. If it's a regional jet, a 50 seater, then no. But if it's a 737, then you should be fine as long as there aren't too many others trying to carry on guitars.

Just a word of advice. I work for a major US carrier, but all carriers have pretty much the same baggage rules. If you take your guitar, please make sure you loosen the strings all of the way. In the event you have to gate check it, the pressure in flight will cause the neck to snap on it if they aren't loosened.

No airline will cover musical instruments as per their Contract of Carriage.

Depends on the size. Mine was taken from me at the gate and put in the hold last minute so not to go with the normal baggage. It will depend on the airline and their rules on baggage. Check with your airline first.

stephane b
Put it in a hard case and ask the checkin agents if you can gate-check it so it doesn't go via the conveyor belts.

Honestly, try not to take it as handbaggage... it will take a lot of room and it's not nice for the other travellers who might have no space left for their own reglemntary handbagge. Your flight attendant will also appreciate that.

roger k
I would give the carrier (your airline) a ring and check if not you can always just check it in as hold baggage.

yogimacca
as long as youve got nothing hidden in it

deburca98
Yes just declare it as oversized luggage. Might have to pay extra.
They will tell you at check in. I saw some one with a surf board yesterdat in dublin air port so a guitar is ok
