You most definitely are allowed...it is specifically not on the banned list. Now, in times of heightened security, it can sometimes be at the airlines discretion, so it is always best to check, but as a general rule, yes they are allowed----if you're worried about it, bring wooden needles....and a padded, self addressed stamped envelope. If (and they really most likely will not) they do take them away, transfer your knitting to a spare piece of yarn and mail your needles back to yourself.
I've seen 2 people knitting on flights i've been on in the last 2 months, so please don't listen to all of these people who think they are so certain that the answer is no. |

Yes you are, don't listen to everyone else. They were not allowed at one point but they are now. If you are ever in doubt check www.tsa.gov for the complete list. |

I flew to the Bahamas from Los Angeles and had no problem carrying on my 10 inch knitting needles. I was asked only once during a security check how long I had been knitting and what I was working on. But I kept them with me the whole time. |

Hi. I don't think so you are allowed to. It's best to check with the airlines itself, but I don't think so. |

If you're traveling on a US Domestic carrier, knitting needles and crochet hooks are on the TSA's "allowed" list for your carry-on bag.
However, the ultimate decision remains with the TSA agent at the security checkpoint. The agent may override the TSA guidelines if he/she feels an item is a threat.
To be safe, take a self addressed, stamped, padded envelope. Thread a lifeline in your work just in case. If for whatever reason the agent doesn't let the needles through, take the needles out and mail the needles back to yourself. The stitches will be held safely on the lifeline. Of course, pack extra needles in your checked bag so you can resume knitting once you land.
I've flown with knitting needles many times since 9-11 and haven't been stopped, but I always have my envelope with me just in case. |

Probably not. You should call the airline and ask them. |

There was a case a couple of years ago where a 90 year old woman was denied boarding a plane because she had knitting needles in her bag. I don't think you can even carry a nail file or nail clippers in your carry on bags. |
