Am I allowed to take my handbag on a plane? |
I`m off on holiday to the carribean in 3 weeks from Gatwick, and just read something really stupid that you cant take your handbag on a plane as hand luggage even if you dont have any liquids in it and that you have to have everything in a clear bag instead, Is that true?
I also want to take gas powered hair straightners with me in my main luggage can I do this as they are gas energy cell powered. |

When I flew in January and again this April, Airport Security would allow just one piece of handbaggage.
This had to be of a size which would fit in the overhead luggage compartments. If you want to carry a handbag as well, this is OK, but it must fit inside your carry on bag.
All liquids must be carried in containers holding no more than 100ml and all such containers to be carried in a resealable transparent plastic bag (a little larger than a "sandwich" bag)
All liquids must be presented at security for examination.
Baby formula may carried separately, but mothers are expected to drink some of the formula at security.
Medication needed on a flight may also be carried - this must be shown to security and it is recommended that you carry a copy of your prescription to prove that it is necessary.
All coats and jackets must be removed (they may also require that you remove shoes) to be screened.
Liquids include:
water and other drinks, soups, syrups
creams, lotions and oils,
perfumes,
sprays
gels, including hair and shower gles
contents of pressurised containers, including shaving foam and deodorants
pastes, including toothpaste, masacara, lipstick and other items of similar consistency. |

You may take one item of hand luggage. You can put your handbag inside a bigger one if you need to carry a handbag. If you put all of the make up you would normally carry in a handbag into a clear plastic bag it iseasier for them to see it and saves you turning out lots of things. Remember no sharp objects and you can only take up to 100ml in liquids. |

I travel by planes all the time and take my laptop bag with me so i cant see why you wouldnt be allowed to take a hangbag. Take a look at the website for the airline, they will tell you exactly what their baggage rules are |

Yes you can take you handbag on the flight with you, I've travelled to Australia twice this year and have taken both my handbag and a piece of hand luggage on board with me. we went from Manchester to Singapore, Melbourne, Cairns, Sydney, Tasmania and Darwin both ways and I was never told once it was only a handbag and no other hand luggage, my hubby had his camera bag and laptop bag with him on all flights too. |

Women may take one piece of carry-on plus a handbag here in the US. I am not sure about your area. |

Last year ... or maybe the year before, England did have a temporary "No Carry-on" policy because of a security threat. They allowed travellers to place a few items (such as passports, wallets, medication, etc) in a clear bag. Perhaps you read an old story or there has been a new threat?
Usually passengers are allow one carry-on and one personal item. The personal item can be a handbag or a laptop case. Liquids should be placed in a bag (within your carry-one or purse) to go through security checks.
I am not sure about your gas powered hair straightener. I would call the airline directly. |
