Well She says that because, she probably doesn't like them either because there is a fact that you are treated like cattle, or bad service, bacause I remember on my trip to Zurich, there was nothing good, in economy, you don't even get a meal the stewardess just sort slaps a snack box on your tray table, and the seating is so tight, it is like trying to fit five people in a Lexus SC430. Another reason is probably because during the flight there was just one screen for every 5 rows and the movie i watched was playing over and over around a with no sound, i am sure that is why.

Many people think that all U.S. airlines do not compare favorably to carriers that are not U.S.-based. So, your mom is probably thinking, if you're flying to London, take British Airways or Virgin Atlantic; if you're flying to Germany, take Lufthansa; if you're flying to Spain, take Iberia; if you're flying to Copenhagen or Stockholm, flying SAS; if you're flying to Ireland, fly Aer Lingus; if you're flying to Italy, take Alitalia.

But this is just a theory ...

It is actually a pretty good airline for international travel (although maybe this is because i fly them frequently and have a lot of frequent flier miles with them). As to why your mom said that - You really should ask her. I'm honestly curious as to why you are asking US why your mom said something... That seems a litle odd. But although American Airlines isn't the best international airline, it's good and certainly not the worst.

Well when you get living hell from a plane trip, you seem to always think the airline ur travelling with sux.... All airlines can be good or bad.....

But if u want to know which airlines have the highest rankings they are:

Cathay Pacific (Airline of the year 2006)
Malaysian Airlines
Qatar Airlines
Singapore Airlines
Emirates

Personally I am not thrilled with any US flag carrier on international runs. Moswtly because the cabin crews are 1) older, 2) set in their ways, 3) complacent, and 4) due to the unions, lazy. I am more impressed with some Asian carriers like Cathay Pacific, EVA Air, China Airlines, KAL, JAL & Singapore Air.

my opinion is there is very little leg room and their is one screen to every three people, and one huge one in the middle.

that's my opinion, but i don't know if thats your moms opinion.

American Airlines has always been good to me, though my favorite international is Korean Air. I guess that only works for Asia tho.

Just stay away from Northwest, Continental or US Airways *shudder*

i don't think american airlines travels to many countries outside the US....they usually stop somewhere on the coast and have their passengers switch to a different airline
