An Easyjet question..?

Has anyone who has booked Easyjet flights recently on line received an e-mail saying that additional information is now required by law before they can fly? The e-mail is asking for each passengers' date of birth, passport number and N.I. Number. Would it be advisable to contact them by phone instead of giving out this info over the internet as you hear of so many dogdy dealings now? Thanks
Additional Details
Sorry, National Identity card number-not National Insurance Number.

Passport or National Identity (NI) card number. For UK citizens passport number is required.

Taken from Easyjet FAQ:

Additional Passenger Information (API) on Spanish Flights

Question
Additional Passenger Information (API) on Spanish Flights

Answer
As a result of new legislation from the EU, all passengers travelling from the UK and Switzerland to Spain on flights departing 11 June onwards are required to provide Additional Passenger Information (API) – the date of birth, nationality and passport or national identity card details for each passenger on the booking – before they travel.

In order to do so, follow these steps:

Log in to My easyJet.com
For each outstanding booking you have which involves a destination in Spain, click the “View” button
Then click the “Add Document Details” button on your confirmation page
Enter the information as requested

Please ensure you provide this information for all passengers, including children and infants, from the travel documents you will use for all affected bookings. If the information supplied is incomplete, inaccurate or does not match the documents presented for travel, the affected members of your travelling party will not be allowed to take their flight.

NB If you received an e-mail from us sent on Friday June 1 informing you that you needed to submit API to us for a flight to Spain departing before June 11, please note that this was sent in error. Please accept our apologies and be aware that you are only required to provide this information if you booked a flight on easyJet.com departing from the UK or Switzerland to Spain on or after June 11 2007.

Please also note that if you made a telephone booking you will be able to provide this information via our contact centre from June 15 2007.

I recently booked a flight with Ryanair on line and received an email asking for additional information. It has something to do with the new laws regarding travelling within Europe. There was an option to ring them with the information.

I personally would ring them - not using the number on the email if it is different from the number on the website. At least you will have peace of mind, and not be worried about putting your information on the internet.

The only problem with calling them is often they only have premium rate numbers - have a hunt around and see if you can find a normal number to call.

Otherwise see if they have a secure server in which to enter the info.

NI number?? good lord, im not surprised the government end up with info being lost when companies are asking that for flights!! They'll be asking us that when we get our weekly season tickets on the train next!

altozebedee69
agreed. you would prob find that someone would end up with your identity else.
deff call them.

kernousse
call them!!! i can understand thm asking for DOB but why NI number??? that's crazy!

Call them and tell us how it went!

You are required to fill out the API (Advance passenger information). This isn't by email, you should complete that when you book and if you haven't, then go back into Easyjet website and do it there. You do not give your NI number.
