Well, yes I have. I was a Flight Attendant for 13 years.
The vast majority were under age 10 and the "victim" was usually a parent. Most of the time it happened on landing so chances are, you're going to get out of there soon anyway.
I remember a dad flying alone with his two. The boy threw up and the girl got mad at him. To quell the situation, I offered to have her stand with me and say goodbye to the passengers with me. Of course, they smelled it and commented and she didn't stop "That wasn't ME. That was BOBBY. Bobby threw up because he's STUPID..."
I've been to almost 60 countries myself and honestly, I never saw it travelling either. The only time someone next to me got sick, it was an executive and we were flying Business (figures...)
It's even less likely today. The very few times I saw adults get sick was when they drank too much, as my seat partner had. Post 9/11, they're more careful with this situation and cut the person off sooner. If you see anyone getting rowdy or out of hand, have a word with the crew.
I'm very experienced with vomit. I swear that I've given birth to three VOLCANOS. My second only has to see a car in a parking lot... They're fine flying but get them in a car, better be prepared! Twice my second has thrown up on the *way to the airport* but then was fine on the flight. No kidding we actually fly because my husband prefers paying for the flight than cleaning up his car (once, each one took turns...) We do not back out of the driveway without a full cleaning kit, paper towels, plastic bags, the works...
So relax and don't worry about that happening. |

Yes as a kid on a flight in an old DC3. The thing bounced you around and stank of gas and vomit. A soon as one person hurled, the whole plane blew lunch. No meal on that flight and the stewardesses earned their high wages. So if you see DC3 marked anywhere on the plane, don't get on!! Other than that, no, never again. RScott |

It's not as common as you might think. I find that it's usually kids, and it's usually towards the back of the plane (that's the area that feels the turbulence the worst!) So, my best advice, try to get a seat toward the middle or front of the plane! |

It is not a common thing at all - but it could happen during a rough flight.
I was on a 55 passenger plane from Washington DC to New York one time. It was a very turbulent flight. Suddenly, one person got airsick and "tossed their cookies" into the airsick bag. That started a chain reaction for the remainder of the flight. At least 3/4 of the passengers got sick and threw up. Some did it several times. The flight attendant kept going up and down the aisle, picking up full barf bags and handing out empty bags.
It did not bother me. When the flight attendant came by one time, I asked her for a soda. She told me in a definite New York attitude way that she was too busy for that.
That was a bad flight. I have never had that experience again. You have nothing to worry about. |

Yes
My 5 year old daughter threw up (partially on the guy in the window seat) when a Las Vegas landing was aborted at the last minute and the plane had to quickly climb. |

Once when I was 14 I hurled all the way from London to San Francisco. (over 10 hours!) My Mom borrowed just about everyone's airsick bag in our cabin. And then I puked all the way home in the car too. Dunno exactly why, but I've been afraid to fly since, although I'm sure I'd be fine now. I'll be flying to England again in June for the first time since then and I am so afraid of puking! But I think it must have been a childhood thing like other people said, cuz I don't get carsick anymore like I used to. |

I dont think it's common. Although I did once, but got really sick while on the plane, think it was the food. But I only had to do that in front of others while we were landing, cuz they wouldnt let me up to use the restroom... |
