Anyone else noticed while booking on Ryanair, you are charged £4 for checking in zero baggage? |

Yes - it's one of a number of very sneaky moves by everyone's favourite not-so-cheap airline.
If you look closely (VERY closely as it's written in font so small you can barely see it), it tells you that if you are not checking in baggage you are automatically given priority boarding, for which you are charged £4 extra. There is a tiny little link to click if you do not want this - it only appears after you have selected the no check-in baggage option, and is hard to find, but it IS there, and if you click it, it will remove the priority boarding (not worth the effort - families and kids still get on first anyway and the seats are just as uncomfortable!) and will take off the £4 excess charge.
Hope this helps! |

Yeah, I had this crap only tonight.
Technically, it's because you have opted for on-line check-in, with priority boarding. I'd like to see you cash that in though!
What bugs me is this though.
Flights advertised on the web-site "for four days only- lo cost flights with no duty or tax to pay.
OK- I look for a return flight to Alicante- £70....Nice!
Click ok.......... £70 plus tax plus airport duty! £101!!
Click ok. How many bags? Just one. THAT'S £10!!!
So thats £111, right?
How do you want to pay? Well, I'm on-line so plastic, of course!
Visa- THAT WILL BE AN EXTRA £5.50
So- my £70 flight just cost me £116.50!!
How is this bloody CACK legal!!!??? |

Ryanair charges for any checked baggage. Only Carry-on baggage weighing up to 7kg flys for free. Many lo-cost airlines have started charging for checked luggage..some as much as €15 per bag. |

Ryanair isnt as cheap as they make out to be. There are loads of extra charges that they hide until you choose your flight.
Plus the staff are all very rude. I fly alot. Im always first in, never late. I flew recently and I didnt hear the call to begin boarding. I was being shouted at for being late by everyone even the ground crew as I ran out to catch the plane. I honesty did not hear the calling of the flight and they certainly did not call my name until the last minute. I was being told to run, your late so late your so late and everyone drawing me dirty looks. I didnt even get my boarding card checked they just told me to keep running. I thought I was going to get linched. I apologised sincerely as I knew I was partly in the wrong. I should of asked about my flight when I reallised it was taking a long time to call but everyone just stared at me like **** off. Then as we landed we heard this Yeeeeeee-ha! an American pre-recorded voice informing us of Ryanairs on time policy and that we were 15 minutes early. Then why the hell was I treated so badly. I know it can be frustrating as Ive been delayed due to people wanting to finish their drinks in the pub, now thats annoying especially when ur already running late. But this flight was not running late. The boarding call should be called out two or three times anyway. It is in all other airports I have travelled to. Ryanair are crap due to
1. Rude Staff
2. Hidden Costs (which can double/Triple the price of the ticket)
3. They always charge for extra baggage
4. Baggage allowance is only 15KG (it is 20 elsewhere)
5. You still get charged if ur over the 15kg even if you dont have hand luggage.
6. My 50 pound flight ended up in the end costing me 150.
7. No communication
8. Rude Staff
9. Just a **** airline in general. No frills indeed. Not even common decency. All there worried about is this ontime policy. The staff probably get some kind of bonus if there on time, and thats why they were being rude.
Ryanair = **** jounrney. |

That's because if you have no bags to check-in, the system automatically offers you the priority boarding which costs the £4 in question. You can opt out of that and avoid the charge, but I agree they don't make it very obvious.
IMHO, the whole pricing structure of the no-frills airlines is a scam: they advertise tickets for £0.99 (or whatever), and when you book you find they're £30+. Who cares if the extra is taxes, they're still part of the price. Plus that they add all the extra fees for baggage, payment by credit card, etc. I know of no other industry that gets away with such misleading pricing - the equivalent would be going to a supermarket to buy a can of beans for 10p, and then being told at the checkout that there is £5 shelf space charge, £10 distribution costs, £2 check-out fee, and VAT on top of all that! |

as you have been already told ryanair do charge for checked baggage.but with hand baggage there is no charge. and as for the dip stick who sayed the staff were rude, well wake dummy you are told the gate at check-in and at what time the boarding will commence.so if you were in the bar that's your fault not the staff.I have found ryanair staff very helpfull and friendly, better than BA or Iberia now there's rude. |

NO, LOOK CLOSER, YOU ARE CHARGED FOR PRIORITY BOARDING BECAUSE YOU ARE NOT TAKING BAGS AND HAVE THIS OPPORTUNITY TO GET ON FIRST. THERE IS A REMOVE OPTION UNDERNEATH.
if you think about it, why would you be charged for NOT checking in a bag |
