Are budget airlines (UK) as safe to fly with as non-budget ones?

Just because budget airlines charge cheap fares, it doesn’t mean they compromise on safety to save costs. In fact, budget airlines are arguably safer than many of their traditional "full service" airline competitors for a number of reasons:
As well as having new planes, budget airlines also typically use only one model of plane. The Boeing 737 is the most popular aircraft used by low cost carriers around the world. By only having one model of aircraft in their fleet, budget airlines streamline their maintenance and repair costs and make staff training much easier, rather than having several different types of older airplane in a legacy fleet to maintain, each with their own idiosyncrasies.

safe, they certainly should be. but if its quality your talkin about then definatly not.

Yes, there are standard safety tests that all planes must pass... just as a car must pass an MOT regardless of it's make or ownership.

What might be different though are the internal seating arrangements, so although it is perfectly safe, you might only have a tiny bit of space to yourself as they budget airlines tend to cram the seats in to get more passengers.

Champagne
Yes - they're just not as comfortable

Clairee'
my friend said there safe but the food and leg room stinks

pirate_princess
Their planes still have to pass the same safety tests and the staff know the same safety procedures, so yes.

Gem*
Yes off course they are. They just don't have all the frills of the more expensive airlines.

Yes, in fact there are more cases of non - budget airline aircraft crashing than there are budget airline aircraft.. The planes themselves are just as safe, they are just not as comfortable.

BillyB8
Yes. As the exact same tests on aircraft and crew are performed to a set standard.

Yes, I think indeed they are.

Yes defiantly as Safe, they follow the same regulations and in many cases there aircraft are newer than the more established airlines, comfort however that's a different story.

I have travelled with Easy jet from Newcastle and found them better than many of the big airlines!. We had no problem checking in, we left on time, and the journey home was just as good. Plus it was cheap!.

All airlines are as safe as one another, they would not be in buisness if they wasn't. You go for it.

Rod S
AVOID the ones with outside toilets.

Sure it's fine that the wheels are attached with duct tape and the engines are recycled from riding mowers...

?
On a Virgin flight, I asked were they called "virgin" because they are new, pristine, and unsullied? I was told it was because they hadn't been serviced by a man for 16 years...
