Are exit row seats able to recline?

I'm having a discussion regarding what the best seats are for long haul economy seats in an airplane. Although I would prefer exit row seats for the extra leg room, my wife insists that exit row seats don't recline, which is her preferred feature. Does anybody know for sure if the exit row seats can recline?

It depends on the seating configuration but GENERALLY:
- The exit row (with the legroom) DOES recline
- The row in front of the exit row does NOT recline

Bear in mind the following for exit row seats:
- There may not be a window
- The window/wall seat may have restricted legroom due to the exit door (most bulge inwards).
- You have to put your hand luggage in the overhead lockers - you can't leave it on the floor in front of you.

Depends on the type of plane.

This web site has an awesome database of aircraft and recommendations on seating:

Exit row seats will recline provided there is not another exit row behind it ie at an overwing exit where there may be two exits.

yes the exit rows, most of them at least , recline. Its the ones in fron of the exit row that don;t so they can keep it clear in an emergency

Heidi
yes, at least on continental. Also, the row in front of them is able to recline as well. (all two inches-- haha)

Normally the first row of the exit row has limited amount of reclining space. But the second row of the exit row does fully recline.

Seating charts will show 2 rows of seats in an exit row on full size planes. The first row does not recline, the second row does.

It depends on the airline, not the airplane. All you have to do is ask when you book your ticket. I like them too but every airline is different, if they don't recline it helps the airline shoehorn another row in the plane.

exit rows do not recline. I travel a bit and have been stuck in that seat before. Sure, lot's of leg room, but no reclining.

No, no seats recline on the airlines anymore - not like they used to.
