Are metal rods and screws inside the body detected when going through the metal detectors in airports? |
e.g. titanium rods and screws to hold bones. wait, is titanium even considered metallic? |

When you have a medical procedure that puts any metal in your body ie. titanium rods or screws you will get a card from your doctors office that states that you have metal in your body. So when you travel and go through the security checkpoint you can hand them they card in case the metal detector does go off. |

It depends on how much metal you have and how sensitive the machine is....some people set it off...some don't. My husband had a knee replaced and he sets it off BIG time! |

Yes titanium is a metal. And yes, metal detectors do pick up there presence. Just wait until you go into a federal building. The Feds love looking at scar tissue. |

Titanium is a metal. I have had 2 screws in my arm for over 30 years, and have never had any problems going through the security checks. They always seemed more interested in the coins in my purse, although nowadays one has to put the contents of the pockets on the conveyer belt. |

Yes. They will pick them up. Even Titanium.
They will do secondary screening, and you will be on your way.
Has to be the right amount of metal though. Very small amounts will sometimes not be picked up.
Most American airports have upgraded their metal detectors to pick up even the smaller amounts though. |

Well I have a titanium screw in my finger and so far Toronto, Edmonton, Vancouver, Seattle, LAX, Amsterdam, London, Paris, Frankfurt, Dusseldorf, Madrid, Barcelona, Rome, Istanbul, Bucharest, and Athens, haven't picked it up:) |
