Are short flights safer than long flights?

From my understanding I think they fly higher on long flight which means there is less air traffic, so maybe it would be more safe. But on the other hand long flights could be dangerous to because what if something happens like enough gas isn't put in the plane (which doesn't happen but if it did...) then you would have a really bad situation. Also longer flights are usually over seas so if there were an emergency landing the air craft would have to land in the water, rather than in a near by airport on the ground. But there are pros and con of each. I personally don't like flying and I like shorter flights because I get restless and anxious but then again I rather have a long flight than having to transfer!
If you are going on a plane and are a little nervous, just relax and bring a really good book to read, snacks, and just take deep breaths. What helps me when I get nervous during like turbulents is to look around at all the relaxed people who are sitting as if nothing is happening, it is actually really comforting!

There are two reasons why a shorter flight might actually
be more dangerous than a long flight,
but keep in mind that flying is very safe,
we are only talking about a slight margin of difference.

1. The takeoff and landing are more dangerous than cruising at altitude, and they make up a higher percentage of a short flight than a long one.

2. The planes that are used on short flights are pressurized and de-pressurized more often, and so might be more prone to stress failure.

But again ... if the danger factor on long flights is
0.000010, then we are only talking about an increase to 0.000015. (or whatever the small numbers might be).

Yes, much the same way a shorter car ride is safer than a longer one I guess.

I wouldn't say so. When your flying a longer trip your flying at a higher altitude, less airtraffic. Plus most of the trip the plane is on Autopilot.

yes! def. you dont go as high in the air so it doesnt hurt your ears that much...thats what i like about short flights..and its not so long...so yeah it is way better!

Neil
No.

The data does not support this.
There are so many things to consider...
