in the uk the government don't pay any thing for airport security it's the airline's that need to pay for a dft required function.
I think i fair to pay a bit extra for security as long as the money is being spent on security and not on lining the pockets of the owner's or share holder's of the airport.
look at the baa for example they have spent a fortune on new equipment and to increase there security staff.
and before any one start's yes I know there is still que's at the airport's but staff are not trained over night and your fellow traveler could help that situation by getting them self ready in advance insted of putting thing's in there bag's that they are not allowed.

EDIT: Hold bag's have been screened in the uk for year's in fact a scottish airport was the first to do 100% hold bag screening

I'd rather pay a few extra quid for the security than have some MoFo blow me up!

well i don't mind paying for peace of mind. I would rather pay for something than get ripped off like ID fraud, than not.

The amount charged to your airline ticket for security (i.e. to fund the TSA) is a maximum of $5.00 for a round trip. It doesn't bother me.

Here's all the fees that are added to your airline ticket:

NO.
More security? Surely if you pay £9.99 to fly to Thailand you should be SAFE.

Why did it take years after 9/11 before they started x-raying bags in the hold? If they wanted to blow up a plane why don't they just carry on board the triggering device rather than the bomb? A small remote with the bomb in the baggage compartment will do just as much damage.

No... you have been taken for a ride, don't be happy paying for some threat that does not exist.

Irrelevant infomer
EL AL the Israeli state airline has it spot on, armed air marshals on every flight at no extra cost. Nobody should be charged extra for what is the air lines and state authorities obligation by rights to civilians safety. As for all these fly by night shysters who take customers money quick enough knowing full well the companies about to collapse should have their personal bank accounts frozen and all company assets used to get the people stranded back home.
