As a flight attendent are you allowed off the plane when you travel?

I was thinking about a job in the flight attendent area I like to travle and I have a warming personalty*I know I spelled it wrong.* Anyway, I was wondering are flight attendents allowed off the planes to travel the city a little bit, when they go somewhere, Im fluent in french and know a little bit of Spanish so yeh. Im taking Japanese, so yea!! I love Japan Im going there soon. I luv Japan. Im not a real big anime freak. I'll watch it but I wont like it. Anyway I would greatly appreciate an answer. Thanx

My best friend is a FA and I've traveled with him while he's working. When he's working short flights between Las Vegas, Phoenix, LA, and other cities near the Phoenix hub he doesn't have time to get off the plane until his shift is done.

His layover depends largely on what his schedule is for his 4 day shift. Most of the time he has less than 20 hours on the ground. He usually spends his time preparing for the next day, getting something to eat, and sleeping. If he has time, and the crew hotel (the hotel the airline puts the crew in for the night) is near something cool, he may go sight seeing for a few hours, however, he has to walk, take a taxi or the bus as he doesn't have access to a car.

When he works flights to Hawaii (the one's I accompany him on) he usually has a 28 hour layover. We have enough time to eat sleep and do something fun such as go shopping, snorkeling or sightseeing before he has to report for work. I usually rent a car so we have transportation and can get farther away from the hotel (which is fabulous in Maui).

You also have to realize that the flight attendants are not allowed to leave the plane until all the passengers are off loaded and their post flight duties are completed. They must arrive for report 1 hour prior to flight time to complete all their pre flight duties. Sometimes the crew hotel is near the airport and sometimes it can be 30 or 45 minutes away. Sometimes the hotel is near attractions and sometimes it's in the middle of no where.

If you like living out of a 22inch suit case, not having much control over your schedule for the first few years, being treated like crap by people who think they are better than you, working for poor pay, and not having a normal sleep schedule than being a flight attendant may be the thing for you.

Meep!
Only if you have to stay over a night in a city would you be able to get out and about. However, I would imagine you'd be tired from working so much.

it depends on how long you are going to be there....you are allowed to get off the plane and look around town, eat, etc as long as you are not flying off agian real soon. There are regulations to how soon you can fly too depending on the length of the flights...good luck and have fun.....

Flight attendants are only allowed to leave the plane when the plane is on the ground.

I'm not a flight attendant but I know people who are and from what I understand it depends on the length of the flight. For instance, if you are on the London-Paris route you could fly between the two cities several times a day and not get to see anything of Paris. But if you are flying London to New York, say, this would take up your whole working day so yes, you would probably have a stop-over. If you are doing London to somewhere really long-haul like Sydney, you would have a few days rest in Sydney before you came home again.
I think (though I may be wrong here) that the more junior staff do the short-haul flights to start with, so you might have to work there for a while before you got layovers in the more exotic places.

Jon
I believe you are allowed to roam around the city you landed especially if you're plane stays there for the night/day

huckleberry58
no, u have to guard the plane.

skcs11
yes

You are able to do whatever you want on your time off, but you can't just fly to somewhere in Japan and get off and tour the city.

roxiecat4200
It depends on the flights you are taking, but most international flights they will have at least a one day layover before they have to jump back on the plane. They aren't going to make the attendants work 36 hours straight. But a lot of times the attendants are exhausted after such a long flight they don't really feel like sight seeing.
