Asking for a particular seat while checking-in in an airport? |
Do people do this a lot? I always want to sit next to the windows seat in a flight (its the child in me), but I'm always embarassed to ask them for a window seat. Do a lot of people ask for a particular seat while checking-in? |

I always ask for a window seat as I love to look out at the ground below during take-off and landing. And if I'm going somewhere new, it's cool to see it from the air as I first arrive.
Just ask - nobody will bat an eyelid. |

People do it all the time, nothing to be embarrased about. :)
If you're a frequent flier with an airline and feel particularly brave, also ask for a 1st class upgrade. ;) (Which people also ask for all the time.) |

Why be embarrassed? Many people ask. |

Anyone can actually request for a preferred seat in the plane. You should not be embarassed in asking what you want, that is a privilege you can always enjoy. Regardless of who pays your ticket, the assumption is you are a customer and you have the right to ask. What you are asking is not impossible so the next time you check-in, tell the counter attendant which seat you want to be. You will see, you will get to enjoy your travel more than you expect. |

If you're embarassed asking for a window seat in person, try making your reservation online. Many travel websites, as well as airline websites, allow you to view the seats available on your flights and pick exactly where you want to sit. |

Yes. You have to remember that airlines will NOT assign about 30-40% of their seats until day of the flight. Therefore if you get to the airport early enough, you can ask for almost any kind of seat you want. I have done this several times in my life and it almost always works. I perfer the Aisle over window, so if I am not able to get an aisle seat ahead of time, I get to the airport like 2-3 hours early and they almost always will be able to get me in an aisle. The key will be getting to the airport before the main rush of people get there though. |

I know I do....don't be embarrassed there are people that prefer an aisle seat, no one asks for the middle seat, that's for sure....
the worst thing they can tell you is that there is none available, don't stress it, just ask...If you still feel uncomfortable, then when you are making your reservation, request the seat you want at the time, they will assign it for you ahead of time too, you don't need to wait to get to the airport to get assigned, although you can change it if you would like to. |

Asking is free--- the worst thing they can do is say no when you check in.
I like to use online checkin when I travel. If you have a printer at home, you can print your boarding passes up to 24 hours before a domestic flight, with almost all airlines, no matter where you purchased the ticket. Next time you fly, do an online check-in and if there are open seats, you will be able to select one that you like better right on the checkin screen. Or just ask when you purchase the ticket. Everyone has preferences about where they want to sit. The worst that can happen if they don't have a window seat for you is they say no. |

Oh yeah! Don't be shy. I prefer window seats as well, but I also want to be near the front of the plane; I like the idea of getting on last and getting off first, especially if things are running late and I'm trying to make a connection.
The 24 hour check-in option over the Internet is good, not only for less hassle at the airport, but you can change your seat assignment at that time as well. I have gone onto the computer and changed my seat assignment for a better one less than 24 hours before the flight; you can do this, print your boarding passes and then you are ready to go!
Look at it this way; you're the customer. Why shouldn't you get the best seat available that is consistent with what you want? |

I travel very often and I always ask for a window seat, some people don't prefer window seats. I always ask for it even if I don't always get it. |

Request it when buying your flight but if you forget, just ask at check-in. Everyone else does. |

I always ask for an aisle seat, because I'm slightly claustrophobic. If I've purchased my ticket online (which I do a lot) then I check the website to see if I can reserve my seat before I get to the airport. Then I ask anyway when I'm at the airport, just to double check.
No need to be embarrassed. |

Tell your travel agent you want a window seat and they can request it for you. |
