Baby On A Plane!!!!!!!!!?

Got a 9hr flight comimg up in March and my son will be 1yr and 2mths. Can i get special medicine so he can have a nice long sleep on the plane? Basically i wanna knock him out (not litteraly) because it wont be fair on him being kept in one space. Not a cruel person just wanna make it as easy and stress free as possible!

Cheers

u might want to ask your pedi re: that. Also, re: toys...you may want to get several new toys and introduce them on the plane - will occupy him a little longer than a toy that he already has because it's new. Some of the moms in my moms group did that on the plane and they said that worked nicely. Most of them took 6 hr+ flights and quite a few of them flew internationally. Also - you may want to give your baby either a juice box or a bottle while the plane is ascending and descending...will help clear their ears so they don't pop too bad.

My pediatrician suggested Benedryl. Make sure you get your son's ears checked because if they have even the slightest ear infection, they'll scream throughout the flight because of the pressure. Make sure you have something for him to suck on for the take-offs and landings to help their ears pop -- kind of like you do when you plug your nose and blow! or he will have problems with the pressure change and may get upset. If he was older, you could give him chewing gum for the take-offs and landings.

Speak to the doctor but I doubt they would recommend anything as he is so young. The doctor is the person to ask though.

I dont know if its true or not, but i was told that the doctors can sometimes proscribe a medicine that helps them sleep on long planes journys, dont know if thats true, check with ya doc!!
I took my daughter when she was 1 to dom rep, she was as good as gold, then when she turned 3, we went to turkey, OMG coulda killed her!!

Hi, Where u off to?
I don't think they do sleeping pills for young kids, but I guess u can get some advice from your doctor and see what he recommends.

"i've had it with these mo'flipping babies on this mo'flipping plane!!! only joking :o) i wish i'd thought of that when travelling with my baby son-they hate being in one spot for too long -like a bit of variety

Just keep him well fed, changed and warm, but not too warmand he should be ok. He is used to being in "one space",after all in spent 9 months in "one space" so9 hours should be easy. Being a 9 hour flight it sounds like you will be on 747 or similar, so the isles should be nice and big forlots of walking with your baby.

benadryl is safe just watch the dosage..

Benedryl is a safe way to sedate your baby, check with your doctor first. Also run a "test" scenario on you kiddo, sometimes it'll have the opposite effect and your kid will be wide open. Another option is Triaminic, but please mind the dosage and talk to your doc.

nope deal with it just take lots of little toys and books to keep him amused.

I would recommend trying to schedule sleep times with the bulk of the flight. Also, it was a great recommendation before to have the baby nursing/drinking during take off and landing to help with the pressure on the ears. Chamomile tea is great for calming and with honey it will have sweetness without the sever sugar crash that could make him cranky.

I think going to the doc for a check up (especially the ears & sinuses) and get suggestions for the trip.

Also pack a wide variety of items that entertain your lil one for when he is awake... books, stuffed animals, rattle (not too noisy), cd/tapes with player, interactive toys, etc.

Find out if the plane/flight has individual tv screens for each seat, if they do you might be able to find something on that is appropriate and stimulating.

I hope these suggestions help.
