I think there has been some confusion about what your question-weather you are referring to going threw security on when your on the plane itself?
Threw Security-You are required to remove your shoes to be screened, but you can put them on as soon as you get threw the security checkpoint.
On the plane-You can take your shoes off if you want, but you are not required to. I usually prefer to on longer flights, as I can move my feet around more that way. |

What? You don't have to go barefoot on a plane. You have to take your shoes off at security, but they let you put them back on. You can be perfectly clad in shoes on a plane. I promise |

As others said, you have to go barefoot for the security check, but on long flights it's also recommended to take your shoes off and move your legs, feet & toes to prevent deep-vein thrombosis. But it's not required, and when you're wearing non-restrictive footwear, or on short flights there's no need at all. |

You have to wear your shoes on the plane. At the security check point in the airport people are asked to take off their shoes to be checked for weapons, drugs, and explosive that some people put in and around their shoes sometimes. It's for safety reasons. People will often hide drugs in their shoes or in the soles of their shoes, that's why people are asked to take off their shoes. But once you are cleared through the secuity check point you have to put you shoes back on. |
