I've answered a similar question before and here is my answer.
As far as what you will do. You can do the following the day before your flight and during the flight.
1) Think of this thought Experts say, just look at the facts. In 1998, the odds of dying in a plane accident were 1 in 390,000, compared to 1 in 6,212 in a car. Yet few people say they are afraid to get into a car
2) Have plenty of rest and sleep the day before you're flight
3) Meditation, deep breathing and muscle relaxation techniques can help reduce your anxiety during flights.
4) Desensitization (exposure to the something that you fear or scared about) is one of the more commonly used methods in treating fear of flying. This will entail gradually facing the idea of flying, starting with simply talking about it, or visiting an airport, to eventually taking a flight. |

I enjoy flying, its like a fairground ride for me, the rougher the better! Great view too.
Speak to your GP, he might be able to prescribe prozac, then you just won't care. If you take sleeping pills, you will be completely vulnerable to those sitting beside you. |

it is statistically the safest method of travel, but i know how you feel. alcohol helps, but don't overdo it, they can refuse to let you on board. |

Pop along to your local health store, and pick up some 'Rescue Remedy' This is a herbal remedy, and therfore is not addictive in any way, but if you start using it a couple of days before you fly, I'm sure you will find it will help. Another thing you could try is 'Syndol' tablets. these can be bought over the counter, and are actually designed to help tension headaches, and actually contain a muscle relaxant. I usually try these if I have a nighttime flight, as i find they help me to relax, and often, help me to sleep on the flight too. ( check with your local pharmacist if you are taking prescription medicines.) |

I am scard of flying too, I had to fly from gatwick to south african on a 10 hour flyight on my own. I was terrified.
what i did was try and sleep though it.
If you think about allthe planes that fly safe to the destination everyday, N think why should your flight be any differnt. Piolts know there job and if there is any thinhg worng they will land.
iThere is more chance of a car crashingon the moterway. I got over my fear after my flight. Nothing went wrong and we hit 2 bad storms and im still alive. :D
Try not to think about the bombing ect. its unlicky you will have to witness anything like that again. Im not saying it wont happen again But is unlikey to happen that day. |

think about the thousands of planes that fly every year, and then in relation the chance of having a problem. it's minute. I fly to and from belgium about three-four times a year, plus small travels within europe, and then washington-richmond every few months. I have never had a problem. This is all my life, btw. |

Well we all have the same problem something seems to happen to airplanes just before your goin on one. Iv not long come back from New Zealand and 3 days before my flight from Manchester to Heathrow that plane crashed as the engine just stopped working and I even went on the same make plane. Iv been on a plane many times now and I say im not scared of them but everytime i get on one i still have a little fear inside. I shouldnt worry there supposed to be safer than cars so i think everyone should be ok hope this helped. |

Mate. As a First Officer for Virgin Atlantic I can tell you that you will not get over your fear without help from Doctor Phill. lol. Have maybe 2 beers or drinks before you go on board. Take (1) and one only, sleeping tablet followed by another drink that will be free if you are flying international. You should sleep through the flight bar a couple of hours. Good luck. PS. DO NOT GET DRUNK. If you cause trouble then u will be offloaded by FERERAL POLICE. |

The best way to overcome fear is to face it, running away from it will not help. Trust me I had to face flying again after I lost my colleagues in air mishap. It was my profession and I had to face it and until I tried, the fear lingered. |

Do you get scared in car? Only you are 100's time more to have an incident in car than a plane. Safest form of transport!
Sit back , relax and have a great holiday!! |

Either take a sleeping pill 20 min before the flight, or learn the fun of cognitive-behavioral therapy or rational-emotive therapy! |

It is normal to be a little anxious. Just think of all the flights that go to and from all destinaations each day! They come and go with no problem. The chances of having a problem at your flight are so minute, that frankly you have more chances of being in an accident if you are not on the plane at that time, if you are at home or at the street. Think about this every time you feel anxiety. And of course choose a trustworthy airine. Enjoy your holidays! |

I have exactly the same problem as you
I advise sleeping pills, because they force you to go to sleep, and you sleep throughout the whole flight!
Its excellent |
