There's a significant difference in cattle class compared to business or first, much aside from the food and utensils. For me, the leg room is WONDERFUL. But if you're not 6 feet tall, it may not be worth the cost.

We flew either first or business on JAL from Manila to Tokyo. I don't know how their 747s are configured, so I;m not sure, but they were WONDERFUL. The new cocoon seats that recline completely, LOTS of leg room - WOW.

PS. JAL is a first-class outfit if you can afford them. We requested a baby seat both ways and the seat is already afixed when we board. And super service.

It depends on the airline, on a few recent business class flights on a couple of Asian airlines, we've had real silverware including the knives, no plastic at all. The knives did not have sharp points, but were serrated and were more than adequate. I'm not sure that airlines consider 1st and business class passengers to be less of a security risk, the terrorists on 9/11 were mostly in 1st or business class. Go figure.

From what I have seen, you get real silverware.

Ive flown first many times, both Pre and Post 9/11. Yeah they still give you silverware.

It really depends what you can afford, and what you want to expect. If you just want to get from A to B with reasonable cumfort, go ecomomy. If you want real comfort, go in buisness class. Many people say that first class is great, but first class isn't really worth the extra money.

Try the link I have provided below,,,

when i flew back from florida 1st spetember 2001, 10 days before spetember the 11th thank good of i might have been too scared to get on the plane! anyway it was with airtours, and we went premiair gold, and we got little oblong rounded yellow boxes containg noraml size metal knives, faulks and spoons with green plastic handles, the back of the box even said we could take them home with their compliments! :D

but that was back in 2001, havent flowen upper class since then, went virgin atlantic economy to JFK in 2005 and we had plastic cuttlery, but it was economy.

We used to be able to get silverware, but I think that became a security issue just recently. The food is served on china plates though.

I like first and business because of the comfort. Virgin Atlantic offers a bed in first class, which is actually really comfy. Plus there's the personal tv screens with practically everything ever made on them!

Only travel business or first if your going long distance, but my advice go cattle and then try and get a free upgrade, as long as you don't have any children with you, you have a better chance.
