I think I've got what you need. It's Travelocity Dream Maps, where you type in your city (GRR in your case--Grand Rapids, MI), click if you want to search fares to North America, Caribbean, etc., then specify different price levels for it to check. Since Travelocity also gets all sale fares updated direct from airlines several times each day--just like any other travel agency--you can quickly see what's on sale. BUT, if you find something, it will tell you which airline, so go direct to that airline's website to book, and you will avoid the extra fee that Travelocity and Orbitz and others add on.

Alternatively, http://www.smartertravel.com has great features to also help you track airfare sales--specifically from your home airport.

Find there 1-800 numbers and make some phone calls and ask them for there best rates! They will wan't to know if you need a hotel at the other end and a car at the other end atc. but then they can give you the best deal.

Call the airline directly, usually you can get really good deals.

But no matter when you call, the day after you book is the day they go on sale. Just happens.

try AirTrain Airways, they are constantly expanding their flight cities, and their flights range from as low as $29 one way depending upon where you are flying.

The rates vary depending upon which day and month you travel, and of course depend upon where you are traveling to. Sometimes you will get a much cheaper fare if you stay say 10 days instead of 7 when booking a roundtrip. Sometimes you get lower fares if you book last minute, and others it helps to book well in advance.

I use expedia.com most of the time, but sometimes when I compare their rate against the airlines online fare I do better at the airline.

Travelocity.com, I believe will show a schedule when rates are lower.

Also, it is usually cheaper to fly on an airline that has a hub in your area when going to another one of their hubs.

The fees for booking online are small. Spend a little time researching your options and you'll get a good price.

try wednesday and thursday, that's when most airlines update their system. you can find weekend deals and last minute deals. there's also fan fares like NBA, nascar...etc.

subscribe to regular airlines like southwest, jet blue, song, delta.... check what airline fly out of your airport. always use several sites and compare.

If you're a college student, you can get VERY discounted air fares. Try searching for that. Or you can try "fun fares" or "special rates". Southwest Airlines has the fun fares, but most airlines have something similar.
