Camcorders as carry-on or check-in allowed?

Hello,

I am flying in a couple of days and I am wondering if I am allowed to bring a camcorder on board the plane? I have read the guidlines via Tssa and I have even emailed them this question. They didn't answer my question at all. They only went over the guidlines which I am already aware of.
The reason I am concerned about the camcorder is because it containes a lithium battery, as most do. I don't want I to be conviscated and never be returned, but I really would like to take it with us!
Does anyone konw the answer to this question....Please help! I'm leaving Fri Am
Thanks!

As a flight attendant, I see camcorders, and all types of 'normal' portable electronic devices brought on planes. Most of the time, TSA just requires that you take it out of the bag when you go through security check, same with cameras, laptops, etc. most containing lithuim ion batteries. Hope this helps and safe traveling!

No problem with the lithium battery or the camcorder. A lot of people carry them as a carry-on because they don't want to check them.

I would recommend not taking pictures on the flight--not because it's illegal, but because it can make people on the airplane uncomfortable.

I'm an international flight attendant and I often see camcorders on board the plane. You'll need to remove it from the case as you go through security so TSA personnel can see it. You can actually use it onboard (except when you're advised that electronic devices must be turned off) to shoot scenery outside the window. It is unlawful, however, to photograph flight crews. Hope this helps.

Well, when I was on holiday in Florida, on the way home back to the UK my dad had his camcorder in the little bag thingy over his shoulder, and the guy at the counter just said (and this was even after 9/11) "Is that a camcorder?" to which my dad replied yes and he just let him straight on the plane without checking! So I assume it's okay... =S

It's allowed. My computer has a lithium ion battery, as do most laptops, and I carry that on every time I fly, as do a significant portion of travelers, so I'm pretty sure the battery won't be a problem. And I'm pretty sure my dad has carried a camcorder with no problems, as well.

The TSA webpage specifically states that camcorders ARE allowed in both carry-on and checked bags. They even specifically recommend carrying them rather than checking them if they're fragile and/or expensive. I'm guessing that the reason that TSA referred you back to the list of prohibited items is that it explicitely states that camcorders are permitted, with no qualifications or exceptions for batteries or anything else.

You're also allowed to put it in your checked bag if you want, but if it's important to you that it not be lost or damaged then I'd strongly recommend you carry it.

Carry-on is fine.

Camcorders are allowed as both checked in and carry on for both international and domestic flights. It would be obviously safer in ur carry on as it is a fragile item. If u would like to be safe as far as the batteries are concerned, put the batteries in ur checked in luggage and the camcorder itself in ur carry on.

stella39
Electronics allowed in the cabin. (carryon)

mm.. i think you should just bring your camcorder with your on the plane. I wouldn't risk it being thrown around down in the baggage area.
