Can I Get Lost in an Airport? |
I've never flown before in my life, and I'm concerned that I'll get lost. I'll be in some pretty big airports (Chicago is one) and I don't quite know what to expect. Any advice for not getting lost, navigating efficiently and quickly and staying calm in the process? I'll be switching planes, so that's why I'd like to know how to navigate quickly. Thanks in advance! |

When you first land or when going to your gate look at the departure times first to make sure you're still on track. Then look at what gate you'll be going to, then look at all the signs carefully. It might get confusing cause you're nervous but they're made very simple for people to understand esp. given this situation. If all else fails there are hundreds of people who work there that will know where you're supposed to go. Also try looking up maps of the airports you'll be going to so you can have an idea of what to expect and where to go. In one airport I had to get on this train thing so I wasnt expecting that! Just try to enjoy the experience and relax, nobody wants you to get lost! |

Don't hesitate to ask any airport employee for directions! |

Easily. Ask for directions without letting your pride get in the way. Look at signs and follow arrows. |

Don't be afraid or ashamed to ask for directions in the airport if you need to - everyone does it, and the employees of the airport are there to assist you. Be sure to double-check the gate number of your next flight ASAP once you land, as it is subject to change.
Also, use the numerous signs that are found in airports to your advantage. When in doubt, look for a sign above. ;)
Best of luck with your traveling. |

Yea, sometimes you can get lost, but there is almost always someone official to direct you to the correct place. |

There are tons of signs and arrows and it is pretty hard to get lost because everything is divided in sections. Even if you do you can just ask someone where gate_____is. |

Hi Narella, my advice is to make sure you review your travel plans in advance. Make sure you know how much time you have for your connection (when you switch planes). Look at your itinerary or your tickets to see what terminal you will be arriving in and what terminal your next flight will be arriving in. Don't be afraid to ask questions to your flight crew or the ground staff at the airport.
There are usually lots of signs and monitors with flight information directing passengers through the airports. Many people are anxious about traveling and are feeling exactly the same thing as you are. Even experienced travelers sometimes get lost when going through new airports.
The important thing is to be aware of the time, make sure you have time to go between terminals and arrive well in advance of your flight. You can get recommendations directly from the airline. Also, remember to stay calm and ask questions of airport staff- you will be just fine!
