Can I make my connecting flight with only 30 mins?

I am flying out of Austin Straubel Int. in Green Bay to O'Hare in Chicago. I have only 35 minutes to get from one plane to the other while at O'Hare.

Do you think I can make my connecting flight? Any tips on what to do to help my odds?

I am use to giving myself at least an hour to make connecting flights, incase of delays, but the airlines changed my flight times and now I only have thirty minutes. My flight is in two days, so it is too late to rebook. Gotta love airlines!

Why can't you make a connecting flight in 30 minutes... I've had a lot less time then that and in larger airports and made my flight. If you don't know what direction to go for the boarding gate.. ask the attendant that is usually available as that will help.

Hi. Let me see if I can help. I used to be a flight attendant for Delta.
1. Get a seat as close to the FRONT of the aircraft as possible and get an ISLE seat. (If you get a window seat, you have to wait for the other people to move and if they are slow you lose time).

2. If you already have a seat assignment, simply call the airline you are flying with and request a different seat assignment. If Customer Service CANNOT change your seat then do the following:

FYI: Rows 1-3 on all aircrafts are SAVED BY THE AIRLINES FOR THERE PERFERENCE AS PEOPLE ARRIVE AT THE GATE. Not at the terminal when you check your bags BUT AT THE DEPARTURE GATE.

Go up to the the Gate personnel and request a change. Be ever so sweet, as they can be quite cranky at times. I don't mean this mean...but remember they are dealing with thousands of customers who can be quite rude to them. SO THEY WILL BE HAPPY TO HELP A someone is who extra polite to them. Tell them "I would greatly appreaciate your kindness in rearranging my boarding pass for a seat in rows 1-3 as I have a close connection time."
AFTER they RE-ISSUE your boarding pass......THANK THEM AGAIN FOR THEIR KINDNESS. They will be thrilled you were nice to them and this will assist you with your short plane change.

3. As soon as the Captain turns off the seat belt sign....get up IMMEDIATELY and move quickly to the front of the plane heading to the direct exit. All planes EXIT ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE PLANE.

4. tAKE AS LITTLE AS POSSIBLE on THE PLANE SO YOU CAN RUN QUICKLY TO YOUR CLOSE CONNECTION. IE: JUST YOUR PURSE AND PUT EVERYTHING ELSE IN YOUR LUGGAGE THAT WILL BE STORED UNDERNEATH THE aircraft. The luggage handles will make sure your luggage arrives when you reach your final destination. Believe me....they work extreamly quickly in turning this luggage around, as they don't want complaints for their customers.

6. I would also go to the O'Hare Chicago web page and see the layout of the terminal, so you will know ahead of time what gates you will be departing from. Again you have a short time, so this information will give you peace of mind and you will know what gate you are DEPARTING from when you check your baggage as well as the ARRIVAL GATE you will be at when landing on the lst leg of your flight.

7. Your second boarding pass will give you the DEPARTURE GATE and that is the gate you will be leaving out of on the second leg of your flight. THOSE ARE THE PEOPLE that can CHANGE YOUR BOARDING PASS. SO MOVE AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE TO THAT GATE AND GO DIRECTLY TO THE GATE AGENT for the SEAT assignment change.

8. It doesn't matter weather you are traveling lst class or coach.......Coach works just like lst class. Coach seats
ALSO save their first 3 rows of the aircraft.

ie: First Class - Rows 1 - 5
Coach - Rows 6 -35 So Row 6 - 8 are the seats
that the aircraft saves for just
this type of situation.

9. I hope this has helped and I wish you a safe and enjoyable trip.

Happy New Year.
Blessings, Patti

Let me tell you from experience...it's gonna be awful darn close!! O'Hare is huge and if you're not landing in the same terminal as your connecting flight, you may be in trouble!! If the plane is even 5-10 minutes late...you won't make it!! If you have a better flight to choose, I'd take it. I hate to put a damper on your trip, but this time of year, there are too many delays...you have been forewarned!! Good Luck!!

You actually may only have 15 minutes.
A lot of airlines wont let you board a plane 10 to 15 minutes before the flight.
O'Hare can be a very busy airport.

Immediately when you get off your first plane check the screen for the gate and terminal your next flight is taking off from.(Sometimes these are subject to change)
If you reach a help desk for your airline that doesn't have a line ask them if the can alert the your gate your plane is taking off from that you are running that way.

Here is a guide with map to the airport.
Print it out and keep it with you to help you find your way.

p.s. Call your airline today and inform them of your situation and ask what their time limit is to board a plane and if they can recommend anything to help you make the plane that I might have missed.

You can, but walk briskly if possible just in case.

Depends if your connecting flight is on the same airline as your first flight. If so, chances are they'll be really close together.

30 minutes is tough. You'll have to hurry (provided your first flight isn't late) and that Chicago airport is HUGE. If you make it, your bag probably won't.

Don't worry, if you miss the flight, they'll put you on another one.

With luck, if the gates are close together, and your first flight arrives on time. and the creek don't rise. I'd be worried, too.

Since the airline made the changes, they should hold the connecting flight for you, but don't depend on it. I have done it with 40 minutes without much trouble, but when your first flight runs a little late, it adds stress to the situation. When you check in at the ticket counter, tell the agent the circumstances. They may have some suggestions or be able to alert the connecting flight.
Good Luck

Yes. It is also good to speak with the employees at the terminal before boarding the plane, usually they will know where your gate is. Often times the pilot will even annonce gates and directions before landing. The plane usually takes in to consideration connecting flights.
Good Luck

This could be tight but since it is the same airline, it shouldn't be a problem. I had to do this once and the second flight was from another airline. Luckily, the second flight was late.

Try to change your seating assignment so that you can exit first. If you can't do that you can do it talk to the flight attendant on the flight and tell them your situation. If you are not seated up front, they might moved an empty seat.

Yes, I've done it before but I had to run because my connecting flight was extremely far from my arrival gate. It's crazy...let's just hope the original flight is early or at least on time or maybe the connecting flight is a little late leaving the gate Good luck!
