Can I take my laptop on a plane?

I've never done it before, and people say that the security at the airport will ask me to turn it on and stuff, especially since I'm going to travel outside of the US. But I'm going to use it at my destination, not on the plane.

Yes, you can take it on the plane. You can even use it on the plane. It's possible that they'll ask you to turn it on at security, but pretty unlikely. I've never been asked to turn mine on.

I fly for work all the time, both within Canada, to and from the US and other places overseas and I have never had a problem travelling with my laptop. I even use it on the plane and many planes now have electrical outlets to let you use it on the plane. All you can't do is use any of the wireless features but it's not like there is wireless internet or anything on a plane.

When you get to the security point they will x-ray your bag and laptop. They may swab it for explosives but all they do is ask you to open it and they run a cloth over it and then analyze that cloth. It takes seconds. They may also ask you to turn it on but they hardly ever do that any more because thats really a useless test since anyone who wanted to plant a bomb in a laptop would ensure it could be at least turned on and appears real.

Bottom line is, take it, use it on the plane if you want and rest easy. It will not be a problem for you at all.

1. You'll have to take it out of your case and put it through xray...NEVER having to turn it on.
2. You can use it before the cabin door is closed.
3. They'll make an announcement to turn off all cells, laptops, ipods..anything with an on/off switch.
4. At 10,000 feet they'll make an announcement you can use laptops and ipods.

yes you can. i take mine w/ me all the time. you can't use it while taking off until you're at full altitude, or while landing (same times you can't use any electronics)...but...i love having mine w/ me to watch movies or listen to music. they've never said anything to me at security about turning it on, but there are specifications as to what type of bag to carry it in. some types of bags, you'll have to take the computer out of the bag, some types you can leave it in. there will be signs at the airport instructing you whether to keep it in or take it out. check out the link to view tsa regulations.

I take mine everytime. You just have to put it in the little boxes to go thru security. Some places make you take it out of the bag. You can also use it on the plane, no rules against that either.

Yes, you may take your laptop on the plane with you -- in fact, you should carry it on the plane with you even if you don't plan to use it on the plane, because of the risk of theft in checked baggage.

It's possible that you may be asked to turn the laptop on going through security (to ensure that it is, indeed, a laptop), so you should make sure you have enough power in it so that you can turn it on and then turn it off.

Of course.

And like what that guy said, you should carry it with you on the plane, because the people(some of them, i don't know) who take out the baggage from the plane just toss the baggage and might wreck your laptop because they toss them(the baggage) on top of each other with such force.

Anyway, if my dad can carry his laptop on plane, then so can you.
