Can I travel alone as a minor?

I just sent my 16 year old daughter abroad alone. just bought her an adult ticket and united airlines asked if she wanted to be escorted or helped when we checked her in. she said no and took off. made one other connection before arriving in the states and no problems. you are old enough.

You can fly alone no problem... however, if you are not experienced in travelling alone, notify the airline that you are a minor travelling alone before you leave. It will mean special perks: if your flight is delayed and you miss your connection, they will hook you up... if you are late and need to hurry to meet your next plane, they'll get one of those cool airport golf cart things and drive you there... you will get to board the plane first... if for whatever reason (weather, etc) your flight is cancelled, they will hook you up with a new flight and also provide accomodation for you in a safe place (think private hotel room!)... and maybe, just maybe... they might upgrade you to first class since you are a 'newbie'

totally yes when i was 10 i flied to and from poland. im going again this year, but im 15 so the flight attendant won't be checking up on me naymore, too bad they are hot especially the european once!

I don't see why not. The thing to do is think of worst case scenarios and know what to do in them. I don't mean the plane crashing but things like 'what if the plane is delayed and I miss my connection? What if my luggage gets lost? How will I contact my parents if the plane doesn't take off at all? What should I do if I'm not met in Italy? My daughter travelled alone at 16 from Europe to the States and was fine. Unaccompanied minors are usually under 16 but any one can ask for extra assistance.

I sent my daughter to Spain by-herself when she was 16. She went to language school for several weeks and lived with a host family. However she did travel by herself and had to change planes in New York (from CA).

The airlines have rules on travel by minors, it will depend on how old you are.

Yes you can.

From the age of 16, you can fly without restictions. However, if you tell the airline in advance (or possibly even at the check-in desk) you can often get special treatment eg. early boarding

Yes you can fly alone.. you're seventeen you can take care of yourself. just make sure you ask questions if you don't know something.
