Each airline has different rules. Delta's rules are:

General Guidelines

* Unaccompanied service is required for all children 5–14 years old when not traveling in the same compartment with an adult at least 18 years old or the child's parent/legal guardian.
* Children ages 5–7 years can only fly on nonstop or direct flights with no change of planes.
* Children ages 8–14 years can fly on nonstop or connecting flights, but may not connect to other airlines, with the exception of Delta Connection carriers (excluding AA Eagle), Northwest Airlines, KLM, and Air France.
* Children 15–17 are not required to have unaccompanied service but we will provide it when requested.
* An unaccompanied child can not be booked on the last connecting flight of the evening. This is to prevent the need for an overnight stay in a hotel. Contact Reservation Sales before you book here at delta.com if you have questions about connecting flights.
* Effective November 1, 2008, unaccompanied minors will not be permitted on red eye flights greater than 2 hours in duration departing 9pm-5am. Exceptions:
o Flights departing from Alaska or Hawaii
o Unaccompanied minors connecting to/from and international flight

So, sorry, but the 14 year old would need an 18 year old along on the trip. There are airlines where the age limit is lower.

On American airlines the 15 year old would be allowed to be the escort for the 14 year old.

On United airlines you are both old enough to travel without escort.

You are both old enough to fly on Southwest Airlines

All of these airlines will take you for an extra fee and then with flight attendant escort and adult signatures at each end and all of that hassle, but you indicated that you did not want to do that.

And please ignore all of the people who are suggesting that you shouldn't do this. It can be a big adventure and you are definitely old enough.

Yes, just both of you have IDs.

Julio C
yes, when your parents buy your ticket they have to specify that you are a minor and then the airline gives you instructions on how to do it. your parents have to drop you off at the airport and let the flight attendants know who you are and that they are your parents. Your parents can also come with you up to the boarding gate of the plane. Safe trip!

Ariel O
if you fly Airtran you don't need any stewards help .

everyday_david
Absolutely. The bigger question is "are you comfortable doing it solo?"

That's a good question. I don't know. Probably with the parent's permission. Because you are both still minors.

The limit with flying alone without a stward is 14 i think, so I am not sure on that one, but if they will charge you the service for it, then just switch airlines and go with Southwest. They dont charge for that stuff. Most airlines charge $100.00 Each way per child.
