You will need a passport. Go to any post office and get an application. I think because your under 19, you'll need your parents to sign it. Check the forms though, cause it might be under 16 and not 19.

Over land, you will need a birth certificate and driver's license.

You might get away with a borth certificate and provincial health card over land, but that assumes U.S. Homeland Security has a clue what socialized medicine is. They will likely not recognize it as government issued photo identification.

Also, in 2008, you'll need a passport whether coming by land, sea, or air.

The Canadian government is taking about 6 months to process passport applications.

If you are FLYING in or out of the United States, you must have a passport.

Until the end of this year, you may drive across the border without a passport.

DRSHORTY is incorrect. You do NOT need a visa to go to the United States. But, you do need a passport to FLY to the United States. You will not be allowed on an international flight without a passport. Seewebpage below to confirm this.

Here's how it works when you travel internationally:
A visa is permission for you to enter another country. So to get into the USA you need a visa. I'm not sure about the visa requirements these days for Canadian citizens. A passport will be useful at customs because it provides proof of Canadian citizenship.

A passport is also permission for you to return to your native country. So you'll need a passport to get back into Canada. I believe Canada is requiring passports at all of its borders now.
