Your doctor can prescribe you something. I think is a realxant of some sort. That's what my sister-in-law does. She is terrified of flying. But she's a little loopie when the flight is over.

Here's a free online video developed by SOAR, the agency created to help people with fear of flying.

I have a friend who pretends to be petrified of flying. She does it to seek attention. If she doesn't fly she gets left at home. Now she loves Hawaii and goes; but still tries to seek the attention.
If it's a REAL phobia, see a shrink.

But you shouldn't deprieve your friends and family of trips because of your problem.

take deep breaths..focus on the flight attendant during the briefing..tap your knee for 35 seconds after take off..and then it should be smooth sailing..also remember that the pilots and flight crew all have families and loved ones to come home to...so they won't fly the plane unless all the conditions are safe..

Go to a local municipal airport and find a flight school. Pay them $35.00 and ask for an orientation flight in a small airplane. Once in the air the instructor will let you take the controls.

Experience how stable the aircraft is. Enjoy the flight. After that flying will be a piece of cake.

the only time that I am afraid on a plane is when it first takes off
other then that no problem. I meet one girl that was afraid when the plane landed to each his own I guess. The only thing that you should do is either read a book or take a nap don't even think about being on a plane. You mean you want to fly the plane? just watch what buddy Hackett does in its a mad mad mad world and you should have not problems just do what he did

My mother used to fear flying and got perscription tranquillisers from her Doctor. However after watching Documentaries on flying and realising how safe it is (more likely to be killed by your trousers!:) she doesn't nedd them anymore.

Believe it or not but the best way to overcome your phobia of flying is to learn how to fly yourself, and I believe one other person already gave a similar answer. People fear flying for mainly one reason: they don't understand it. I believe it was Churchill who once said "We fear that which we do not understand."
Go to a local municipal airport and look into getting your pilot's license. You'll learn not just how to fly an airplane, but more importantly, you'll learn exactly what "makes" an airplane fly. Once you fully grasp the simple aerodynamics of flight and what keeps those big birds aloft, you'll feel more at ease the next time you're seated in a passenger jet.
The total cost for getting your Private Pilot's License will be around $5,000 (that includes airplane rental, instructors' fees, books, supplies, exam fees, and other misc. expenses). The FAA requires a minimum of 40 hours in order to get your license but most students take longer than this (I didn't get my PPL until I had 140 hours, but that's a bit of a stretch, most students have theirs by the time they've logged 60 or 70 hours).
You can solo with a minimum of 10 hours I believe, but your flight instructor won't sign you off to solo unless he/she is convinced that you're comfortable flying the airplane.
Flying is an expensive but wonderful hobby. Once you fully comprehend how airplanes work, you'll be fine.
Maybe I'll see you some time in the cafe of a local airport and I'll treat you to what we pilots refer to as a "hundred-dollar hamburger". =)
