Can anyone tell me if Southwest is a good airline to fly?

I live in Philly so USAirways is destined to loose our luggage. I want to use Southwest but I'm hesitant because of their open seat policy. There are 3 of us flying and we want to sit together.

It is a good economy airline. The open seating is a mess. But you really need to check-in online to get in Group A. As long as you are in Group A you will have your pick of seats. There are really no great frills, so don't expect big meals or service. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Also, they are very flexible with refunds, travel changes and missed flights.

They are good and reliable.
Don't expect more.
They take you from point A to point B.

You can always check in after midnight, the day before you travel on line. Just type in your reservation number, and print out your boarding pass at home. This saves the rush, trying to get the coveted "A" boarding pass the day of travel.

I have never had any issues with Southwest. Despite the open seat policy, the airlines attendents will usually help you out. What I would suggest is to ask them when you arrive. Good luck and happy traveling! :)

Southwest is one of the best airlines, and one of the safest.
Check in extra early and the 3 of you will be able to sit together.
If you have Jet Blue available, i would prefer going with that.

Southwest is an excellent airline. The staff will be happy to get you three seats together. If they cannot find any, they generally will ask other passengers if they would move to another seat.

If you really want to sit together, make sure you get there super early so you can be the first ones on. SW is a decent airline. Remember though it's pretty much a commuter airline so know that it wont be the best you've ever flown, but it's fairly cheap and it gets you where you want to go.

Get on first to catch a group of seats most people don't mind moving, but couples always like to sit together. Don't sit in the backwards seats.

Girls Just Wanna have Fun
Well I am single and the cats hate flying so seating was no problem for me. When I lived in the SF bay area I flew SW all the time between Oakland and LA--they were great. Good pilots and a smooth ride. If you all get on the plane from the same group at the same time you probably won't have a problem.

I love Southwest. The way to get the seats you want is to get there EARLY EARLY EARLY!!!! Can't beat the prices and the service is great.

Get there early and get a pass ASAP. I fly Southwest all of the time. They are by far the best airline in the industry. Great people, a clear understanding of customer service, and clear understanding on how to make money in the airline business. US Airlines and others are terrible.

manx4080
dont you watch the tv show " airline ".......it seems they are always overbooking....dont bank on the seat you have booked and paid for being there when you arrive.....

go Southwest, they're fine and get your 3 boarding passes online so you'll get seated first with anyone who has an "A" boarding pass. On your way home...find a library because you can only print your own boarding pass 24 hrs. in advance.

my avatar's hot!
I LOVE southwest... except for the standing in line to board part, that sucks!

You can go online 24 hours ahead of your departure time and get your boarding passes. Go to their site, pick travel center, then go from there at the check in online link. That will always give you an A pass unless you do it 2 hours before you leave, and an A puts you in the first 50 to board. You will get 3 seats together no problem. If only one of you gets an A, just tell people you're saving the seats for your friends further back, people do it all the time and I've yet to see anyone ***** at them.
