It's called airsickness, but yes, it's the same thing. It has to do with the movement and your vision and equalibrium, I think.

It's possible ~ yes... Do you get seasick (motion sickness) on a boat or driving in a vehicle?? If so, you might want to try "Dramamine" before a flight...
good luck...

absolutely, a friend flies in helicopters all day and says if you yawn big or do the motion of yawning big and keep doing it it helps.--salt on the tongue helps too.--these sound weird but they work--i have never met anyone who gets more motion sick than myself and the worse ever for me was in a little Cessna-- the others are right. it's MOTION SICK for all forms, CAR SICK, AIR SICK , SEA SICK etc. to be more specific but not necessary--i get motion sick on swings, and if I turn a somersault in the pool so I just call it all motion sick.

You can be air sick in the plane. It's all motion sickness.

Wrist bands and chewing gum help some people.

If it goes down in the ocean you'll be some kind of sick---I don't know if it's called "sea sick" or not.

Tim
If you think you will get motion sickness, please go see your doctor to get some motion sickness pills. You can also get them over the counter.

Believe me, if you puke in a plane, and miss the bag, there is nothing worse than an entire plane that smells like puke!

the only way you can be sea sick on a air plane is if it is floating in the ocean, but you can get air sick. land, sea or air it's all motion sickness

mark
yes, motion sickness in any vehicle, boats or planes most common.

I nearly got fired as a F/A for this so yes, definitely! I wouldn't have stuck with the job 13 years if it had continued so I had to find a way to avoid it.

Drugging myself wasn't advisable (lots of allergies to those types of meds) plus you can't have do it for a living but you might find drugs helpful. Discuss it with a doctor. Some have pretty strong side effects which aren't ideal for flying.

First of all, an empty stomach is killer for this. Even a glass of juice will help but please eat before you board. This can be easier said than done, as check-in, security, etc. at the airport take time and finding the time to eat could be tricky.

Take snacks. They shouldn't be confiscated by security but even if they are, just buy something before you get to your gate.

Onboard, stay seated and stare forward on take-off and landing. You shouldn't anyway but consider that seatbelt sign your personal signal to stay put.

Don't lean down to get anything, tie your shoe, anything in either tubulence or during the take-off and landing. I fly with my children a lot so I often start to get sick digging in the diaper bag, etc.

When I worked, I had to be careful putting things away in the galley, leaning over, changing levels, etc. Even if you need to do something, wait until a moment of smoother air to do it. Messing with your things in the overhead containers is killer and that's when everyone's doing it.

Keep hydrated. Buy a bottle of water and keep drinking throughout. Avoid alcohol (although I think you knew this one already!)

Landing is the worst. Kids especially throw up on touch down. The good thing is that it's the end of the flight and you're almost off the aircraft anyway. Get everything done as early as possible, sort your bags, and stay seated during the descent.

If it gets bumpy, stop reading. If you feel any nausea coming on, breathe. Bring up some air if you can.

For your information, it's really not a big deal if someone does get sick. Some airline supply special products to sprinkle on it for the smell. We simply used coffee grinds, which worked but did smell of the coffee.

On landing, again, stay away from your stuff until the plane is completely stopped. You're driving on the tarmac and you can still get CAR sick.

Just try not to do what happened to a short-ish coworker once. A guy came in the galley to ask for a airsick bag and ended up using him instead. I wasn't on that flight but I saw him afterward (think wet cat) as he lamented "Someone threw up on me!" in the crew lounge.

Afterwards he could joke about it. He had to walk to the back bathrooms after the unpleasant event, dripping with muck and made the reasonable claim it was the only time he was able to get through a full cabin without anyone asking him for a drink!
