No lighters, you are however allowed two books of matches. Atleast you were, that seems to be changing constantly right now considering the circumstances of what is going on in London. Check the TSA's website daily, but lighters have been banned since April of 04.

grpr1964
Lighters were not allowed even before the latest events. And most airlines don't allow smoking anyway. So certainly not now!

ziggy bulldust
right now you are not allowed any hand luggage, apart from perscribed drugs, so cigs and lighters have to go in you luggage, put the news on.

prez33rd
There is no rule against cigarettes, however, since all flights are non-smoking then why carry them on-board? They will probably confiscate them and it will make your trip through security a long one. As for the lighter, you can not carry it on-board and you can only check the lighter if it contains no fuel.

Also, in light of the current events in London, contact your airline for more up to date information.

Cigarettes and lighters were not on the list of allowed goods that was read out on the BBC.

I wouldn't have thought they would be allowed at all - at least not today. They usually say keep them on your person, as they can't go in hand baggage/in the hold, but they will prob not let you take them.

Paul B
Let me think, carry a lighter, a small tube full of accelerant onto an aircraft...???

Me thinks no!

As most airlines dont allow smoking why would you?

They have to go in your case...they are still really protective about everything.

Equinox
No, not as hand-carry. They'll have to go into your suitcase into the cargo hold.

everything in your case its says they are only allowing passports ,paper ,tissues and keys

orfeo_fp
they will need to go in your case for the time being, its only documents and things like that which you can take, they are being mega strict

Not for the time being until otherwise advised by the government.
They must go in your case along with all hand luggage except documents, medicines etc

Nix C
Your lighter would have had to go in your case anyway because of the gas it uses.

After this morning, you can only take personal documents and papers - everything else has to go in your case!

Jodie...come on you irons x
yeah you can take them on with you..its fine...opps sorry i thought you meant in general...sorry...i was having a blonde moment

eflatsharp
In the case, in the hold!

lushnut 69
I've been abroad recently, you're can take cigarettes but you're not allowed a lighter at all,you can take matches but you can't keep them on you.

I work at the airport and i smoked until i got pregnant. If you MUST have a lighter it is easy as pie to get through security. Get the small lighter, or the plastic one and if you are a female stick it in your bra, if you are a male, idk put it somewhere.

If you are a selectee (SSSS ON YOUR BOARDING CARD) and a male try hard, you will get a patdown and your not wearing a bra so it might be hard. but if you have no other metal on you the metal detector wont ring off with a lighter. If it is closer to the center of your body it will work. ive done it millions of times. If you wish not to do that, you can take up to 4 books of matches.
but they cannot be the "strike anywhere matches"
have a good trip.

if you are traveling today, august 10. YOU MAY NOT HAVE AN LIQUIDS ON BOARD THE AIRCRAFT WITH YOU TODAY! There was a terrorist threat and no liquids, water, ect. will be allowed on any aircraft today.

amazing!
