Can my kids wear HEELYS on an airplane ?

I think I will call American Airlines just to be sure, but they wanted to wear their Heelys to travel & I didnt want to get just to find out at security that they cant wear them.

Maybe its ok if we just pull the wheels out ~ but doubt I can have that tool (the one that came with them for taking them out) in my purse at security !

Wow ... thanks for all the quick answers !

Good points made about not needing them in the air ~ of course I didnt think of that (getting so bogged down with details that I didnt see the big picture ! )

I will just let them wear them as regular sneakers and keep the heels in the carry on bag.

We dont travel much by airplane & with all the strict security guidelines anymore I just wanted to make sure.

Thanks again everybody :~)

Save yourself a lot of potential headaches and leave the heeley's at home.

My wife works for an airline, and all the kids rolling around the gates on those makes the staff crazy.

Some airports are beginning to classify heeley's the same as skateboards and roller skates. Not allowed.

It's the airport that makes that call. Not TSA, not the airlines.

You can let them just make sure the wheels are out because what if the heely from a bathroom and the plane makes a quick turn they might slip.or what if they trip. o_O

Jon
It's a question for security (the TSA), not the airline. But for what it's worth, in May 2007 I saw a little girl in Heelys in the Boston airport, after the security checkpoint. Really I can't see a reason for not allowing them - it's not like they could be used as a weapon, and that's all that TSA cares about.

It's fine as long as the wheels are out befroe you reach secrity, or you can pack them in ur suitcase.

Mommy to Lauryn and Sydney
I would just make them wear regular shoes and pack the heelys..

racheliswisdom
Yes but they should not use them

i would have them ware other shoes just to be safe on the plain they could always just pack them and put them on when you get to your hotel room or something
that way there is no problem at the security place and your kids still get to ware the shoes

ive seen a lot of kids in air ports wearing heelys

sit in the hat damn scott
if you want them to skate around,,, there really is no point for heelys on a PLAne cause u have to stay seated until ur 10,000 feet in the air.. but do you really want to skate 10,000 feet in the air? So i would say use the heelys without the wheels on..

Andreeka
Just put them in regular shoes. Its not that big of a deal. They can put them back on when you guys land. It will probably be an aggrivation, I have noticed those kids rolling around in those shoes and I have thought to myself that there is a time and place for those shoes.

I've seen kids rolling through the gate area at an airport. Just make sure they're careful not to run into anyone.

The kids can also pack them in their carry-on luggage and wear them after they leave the destination airport.

dboyfresh
yea they probably can just make sure they aren't fooling around in the aisles or something like that

I think you can. Because they scan your shoes before you get on the plane.

Chris W
They're fine for air travel. Just have the kids take their shoes off at the security checkpoint and run them through the scanner. I see kids wearing them at airline gates all the time.

No because you can get arrested for even wearing them in the airport. i think because if you slip and fall you will get hurt and they might have to pay XD
